Hear unreleased John Prine track “World Without Love” from new archival release

We lost John Prine in 2020, and his longtime label Oh Boy Records has curated a new archival release celebrating the 30th anniversary of his twelfth album, Lost Dogs & Mixed Blessings. Originally released in limited quantities for Record Store Day this year, Found Dogs is due out on October 9, a day before what would’ve been Prine’s 80th birthday. It features demos, alternate and acoustic versions, and five previously unreleased tracks. See the cover art and tracklist below.

You can hear one of those unreleased tracks, “World Without Love,” now. It’s an outtake from the sessions that produced Lost Dogs & Mixed Blessings, and it’s accompanied by a video with previously unseen Super 8 film footage of Prine on vacation in the early ’70s. Watch that below.

Also coming up in October is a show paying tribute to Prine, “Souvenirs: 80 Years of John Prine,” presented by his family, Oh Boy Records, and the Hello In There Foundation and happening on October 8 at Chicago Theatre. John C. Reilly hosts, and the lineup of artists (who will cover Prine’s work) includes Margo Price, Nathaniel Rateliff, Ratboys, Steve Earle, Valerie June, Alynda Segarra (Hurray for the Riff Raff), Alejandro Escovedo, Amos Lee, Hayes Carll, Josh Ritter, Joy Oladokun, Kathleen Edwards,  and more. Proceeds will go to the Hello In There Foundation.

There are more Chicago events celebrating Prine’s birthday happening in Chicago around the same time, including screenings of his concert documentary How Lucky Can One Man Get, a panel discussion on Prine’s contribution to the Chicago folk scene, the unveiling of a mural of Prine by Mekons’ Jon Langford, and more.
