Wednesday began Brooklyn Steel run with Daffo (pics, video, setlist)

Wednesday released their best album yet, Bleeds, in September, and their tour supporting it brought them to Brooklyn Steel on Tuesday night (11/11) for their first of two shows at the venue. While he appeared on the album, MJ Lenderman no longer tours with Wednesday, but in case there was any doubt, live guitarist Jake Pugh (aka Spyder) more than ably fills his shoes, and Wednesday truly rip live and have never sounded better.

Karly Hartzman calls Bleeds the “quintessential ‘Wednesday Creek Rock’ album” and live it seems like they’ve found the sweet spot that incorporates both twangy pedal steel and grungy riffage. The parts of Tuesday’s show that stood out to me the most had the band really embracing their heavy side, like the on the night’s penultimate song, the always-epic “Bull Believer,” which had the whole front of the crowd jumping. That was one of a few Rat Saw God songs they did, and they played almost all of Bleeds, bringing Gabi Gamberg of opener Daffo to join them on “Phish Pepsi,” along with a couple of older tracks.

See pictures from Tuesday night’s show below, along with the setlist and attendee-taken video clips.
