
RIP Magic, the UK group led by Sorry’s electronics/production man Marco Pini, released the James Murphy-produced 12″ “5words” back in January via DFA, have now signed with Partisan Records sister label section1 and released their first single for the label.
With haunting orchestra stab samples and layers of percussion, “Skrewdark” sounds like the midway point between the early-’90s Manchester baggy scene and what was going on in Bristol at the time (Massive Attack, Portishead). It reminds me a little of Andrew Weatherall’s Sabres of Paradise and you can watch the video below.
RIP Magic opened for a few of LCD Soundsystem’s Knockdown Center shows in December and are currently on tour across the UK and Europe. Check out the tour poster below.
