Razers: Keeping Heavy Metal Alive With a New Generation

Where It All Began

Most bands begin with the goal of becoming famous or perhaps rich. For Razers, the goal was much simpler: to create a heavy metal band and, most importantly, to “keep heavy metal alive while bringing our own fresh ideas and influences into it.”

Razers are a band from Barcelona, Spain, but their story as a band began with a chance meeting between two young musicians who shared the same dream. Amanda and April first met while taking guitar lessons at the same music school. One had just finished her class while the other was waiting to begin, and although they had already seen each other on social media through the school, meeting in person sparked a conversation that would eventually lead to something much bigger.

Before long, the two began jamming together, discovering that they shared not only a love for guitar, but a desire to create something of their own: a heavy metal band.

The beginning of Razers wasn’t necessarily easy. At just 15 and 16 years old, finding other teenagers who played instruments and shared their passion for heavy metal proved to be a challenge. Rather than rushing into writing original material, however, the young musicians spent nearly two years doing something equally important: playing the music they loved.

Those early years were spent covering songs by their musical heroes, allowing the band to develop their chemistry and grow together as musicians. In 2022, Razers took the next step with their first-ever live performance, playing in front of friends and family.

Looking back at footage from that first show now, the band can laugh at how much they have changed since then. Mistakes were inevitable, but each performance became another opportunity to learn, improve and grow. More importantly, that first concert was the moment Razers realized that the band was no longer just an idea. It was something real.

From there, the desire to grow only became stronger. Their families recognized that passion as well, becoming an important source of support as Razers continued to develop their sound and find their place within the metal community.

Even the band’s name reflects the energy they want to bring to their music. “Razers” represents the intensity they put into every song and performance — music that hits hard and cuts like a razor. At the same time, the name sounds similar to “raisers,” reflecting their hope that their music can lift people up, make them feel stronger and give them the energy to give everything they’ve got.

There was no elaborate story or hidden meaning behind the name. It was instinctive. They simply loved the way it sounded, and even before their first show, they felt that “Razers” captured the passion and intensity they wanted the band to represent.

Forging the Razers Sound

Razers’ music combines the energy of classic heavy metal with the different musical personalities each member brings to the band. Their individual influences can often be heard within the music, sometimes making it possible to tell who first came up with an idea simply by listening to certain sections of a song.

Storytelling is also central to their identity. They aim to create an epic atmosphere while blending it with modern production, fresh riffs and contemporary songwriting. The result is music that feels passionate, energetic and unmistakably Razers.

More than anything, they want their music to create energy.

They want listeners to move, sing, headbang and simply let themselves go. Their hope is that the first reaction is something along the lines of, “Wow… this is good,” followed by enough curiosity to explore the rest of their music and discover what comes next.

Their songwriting process is collaborative from the beginning. April and Amanda usually start with riffs or musical ideas, after which the band discusses the atmosphere, story or message they want the song to convey. Chen then develops the bass lines and Adri works on the drum parts, while everyone contributes suggestions along the way.

Once the instrumental foundation is complete, the band develops the vocal melodies, writes the lyrics and begins polishing the smaller details, from harmonies to additional effects.

Everyone’s personality ultimately becomes part of the final result.

Their influences stretch across heavy metal, with Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Avenged Sevenfold and Sabaton among the bands that have helped shape their approach to songwriting. Outside of music, fantasy stories, mythology, films and books also influence the band’s creative direction, naturally finding their way into the lyrics, artwork and atmosphere surrounding Razers’ music.

Their guitar riffs are already becoming part of their signature, particularly through their melodies, harmonies and approach to guitar parts.

But their identity isn’t confined to recordings. Their live performances are equally important. Each member has their own personality on stage, but they share one goal: making sure everyone in the audience has fun, even if they’re not a regular metal fan.

Big smiles, lots of movement and giving 100% every night are all part of a Razers show.

From First Shows to Bigger Stages

Since those early days, Razers have moved far beyond the rehearsal room. Their journey has already included milestones that many young bands can only dream of, including opening for Cobra Spell in March 2025, winning the Rock Family competition, reaching the final stages of Wacken Metal Battle Spain 2026 and touring across Spain with legendary NWOBHM band Raven.

Yet, for Razers, perhaps the most meaningful achievement has been hearing their own original music come to life.

“There are songs that once existed only in our heads,” the band explains. “Hearing them become real is something we’ll never take for granted.”

Their growth can be heard in that music. Despite being a relatively young band, Razers say the difference between their earliest release and their latest EP is significant. Their songwriting has become more ambitious, their riffs more intricate and their arrangements increasingly detailed, with new musical ideas and note patterns adding greater depth to each song.

That evolution has also extended to the stage. After performing with different musicians throughout the band’s development, Razers have arrived at their current lineup: Hellena on vocals, April and Mandy on guitars, Chen on bass and Adri on drums.

Together, they have developed a confidence that comes with experience, allowing them to move more naturally on stage while constantly looking for new ways to make their performances more exciting.

One of their most unforgettable moments came after winning the Rock Family competition and performing at Sala Bikini in Barcelona. With more than a thousand people in the audience and fans singing along to their songs, the experience felt almost surreal.

“It’s one of those moments that reminds you why all the hard work is worth it,” they say.

That hard work hasn’t always been easy. Like many young musicians, the members of Razers are balancing their musical ambitions with university, jobs, exams and everyday life. Their schedules don’t always line up, but their friendship has helped them through the difficult moments.

They’re not simply bandmates, after all. They’re best friends.

That bond may become even more important in the near future. Several members of Razers will soon be living in different countries for work or studies, creating a new challenge for a band that has spent years building its sound together. Rather than viewing distance as the end of the road, however, they see it as another challenge to overcome.

Financial limitations have also been part of their journey, particularly as a young band. Their families have played an important role in making Razers possible, providing the support and encouragement that has allowed them to continue pursuing their ambitions.

And ambition is something the band clearly isn’t short of.

Part of that determination comes from having to challenge assumptions about who can make heavy music. As a young, predominantly female band, Razers have encountered people who make judgments before hearing a single note, assuming that their age or appearance means they won’t be serious musicians or won’t sound heavy enough.

For Razers, the best response is simply to step on stage.

“Thankfully, that usually changes as soon as we step on stage,” they say.

Rather than allowing those stereotypes to define them, the band uses them as motivation. They want to be judged by what they create, not by what people expect them to sound like.

Five Friends, One Heavy Metal Dream

That attitude carries over into the band’s personality as well. Each member brings something different to Razers, creating a dynamic that feels less like a collection of musicians and more like a group of friends working toward the same goal.

April and Amanda tend to spark the creative process and help shape the band’s musical direction. Abril brings a strict focus to rehearsals while also helping seek out interviews and new opportunities. Mandy contributes imagination, energy and a willingness to experiment with new chords and sounds. Hellena brings charisma and energy both on and off stage, while Adri helps keep the group grounded and makes sure the songs come together as a whole, providing emotional support along the way.

There may be different personalities within Razers, but the band doesn’t seem interested in putting each member into a rigid role. Instead, they’ve learned to trust each other’s strengths.

“We’re not just musicians sharing a rehearsal room,” they explain. “We’re five friends working towards the same dream.”

That sense of togetherness is perhaps most obvious immediately before they perform. Before every show, the band gathers backstage for a quick huddle, making sure everyone is ready, taking a breath and reminding themselves to enjoy the moment.

Then comes their slogan: “We are Razers and we play heavy metal!”

Whether they’re performing for fifty people or a thousand, the goal remains the same — give everything they’ve got and make sure the audience has just as much fun as they do.

It’s an attitude that fits perfectly with the band’s idea of what Razers should feel like. If their music had a colour, they say it would be deep crimson with flashes of silver: crimson for the passion, power and intensity of their music, and silver for the fantasy, mystery and cinematic atmosphere woven through their stories.

If it had a texture, it would be polished steel — solid, sharp and powerful. And if it had a flavour, it would be something spicy with a hint of sweetness, reflecting the combination of aggressive riffs, melodic harmonies and lyrics that they describe as surprising and empowering.

In other words, Razers aren’t interested in making music that simply sits quietly in the background. They want it to hit, move and stay with you.

More Than Just Heavy Metal

For Razers, however, the music has never been only about the riffs, the volume or the spectacle of a heavy metal show. Beneath the energy and fantasy worlds they create is a simple desire: to give people somewhere else to go, even if only for the length of a song.

“We want listeners to escape into the stories we create,” the band says. “If our music makes someone forget about their worries for a while and brings them a little excitement or inspiration, then we’ve achieved what we set out to do.”

Storytelling has become one of the defining elements of Razers’ identity. Their songs often create fantasy worlds populated by characters and adventures, but beneath those stories are emotions that are much more universal — fear, courage, determination and self-discovery.

Rather than telling listeners exactly what to think, the band prefers to leave room for interpretation. Everyone can find something different in the same story, while the message they bring to the stage is much more direct: enjoy the moment, be yourself and don’t be afraid to let go.

Their voice isn’t deliberately political or socially driven. Instead, Razers see their very existence as a statement of sorts. As a young band keeping heavy metal alive, they represent a new generation determined to carry the genre forward while making it their own.

“If seeing us on stage encourages other young musicians to start a band or follow their passion, that’s something we’re really happy about,” they say.

And while it may be too early for a band this young to talk seriously about legacy, Razers already know what they hope people will remember. They want to continue growing without losing the energy and authenticity that made them fall in love with heavy metal in the first place.

The Next Chapter of Razers

The next chapter is already taking shape.

The band is currently working on new material and preparing the second part of their EP, Bedtime Stories Part 1: The Awakening. The upcoming music will revisit and expand on the concepts introduced in the first release, continuing Razers’ fascination with traditional tales and stories while rewriting them through their own distinctive perspective.

They promise bigger stories, deeper mythologies, heavier riffs and increasingly dynamic songwriting, while continuing to develop the world they’ve begun building through their music.

Although live performances remain an essential part of what makes Razers who they are, the band’s focus is currently shifting toward creating and recording new songs. At the same time, their ambitions extend well beyond Spain.

They hope to continue touring, meet musicians from around the world, share stages with both established and emerging metal acts and eventually perform at some of Europe’s biggest festivals, including Wacken Open Air.

For a band that has already opened for artists they grew up listening to and toured Spain alongside Raven, the dream of reaching those stages no longer feels quite so distant.

Still, success isn’t something Razers measure purely through numbers.

More listeners are always welcome, but what matters most is connection. Someone singing along at a show. A listener approaching them after a performance. Hearing that one of their songs inspired someone to pick up an instrument. Those moments mean more than any statistic.

“As long as we keep enjoying what we do, growing together as musicians and reaching new people through our music, we’ll feel like we’re on the right path.”

Perhaps that explains why the band describes themselves as being only at the beginning of their journey. There is still so much they want to learn, create and experience together.

A Message From Earth

And if there is one song that captures the deeper side of what Razers are trying to say, it might be “Queen of War.”

Wrapped in a fantasy narrative, the song tells the story of someone who has spent much of her life being underestimated and controlled before finding the strength to reclaim her voice. Beneath the fantasy is a very human story about resilience, injustice and the ways our experiences can shape who we become.

If Razers could send one song into space as a message from Earth, “Queen of War” would be their choice.

It isn’t simply because it represents their sound. It’s because it represents something they believe is worth communicating: humanity is capable of incredible resilience, but the way we treat one another can profoundly shape the people we become.

For a band whose own story began with two teenagers meeting at guitar lessons and dreaming of forming a heavy metal band, that message feels fitting.

Razers are still young. They’re still learning. They’re still figuring out where their music can take them.

But they’re already doing what they set out to do — creating their own world, bringing their own energy to heavy metal and proving that the genre still has plenty of life left in it.

If classic heavy metal and modern energy had a meeting point, it might just sound a lot like Razers.
