After a few years of warm temperatures, 2025 brought wind gusts and chilly temperatures to NYC on Halloween, but that didn’t deter thousands from heading to the streets of the Village for the 52nd annual Village Halloween Parade on Friday night. Thursday’s record-breaking rain had fully cleared up in time for the beloved annual tradition, whose 2025 theme was “It’s a Potluck.” City Harvest, which helps provide fresh, nutritious food to those experiencing food insecurity, was the Grand Marshall, and as usual an assortment of awe-inspiring puppets of skeletons, pumpkins, and more led the proceedings.

Also as usual, attendees outdid themselves with elaborate costumes worn by those marching and watching from the sides. I saw lots of people dressed as Labubus, and also spotted costumes of Willy Wonka and Oompa Loompas, Trump, Beetlejuice, an evil dentist, Mario and Yoshi, Chucky, Freddy Krueger, Jack Skellington and Sally, Maleficent, Rainbow Brite, scary clowns, The Grinch, a movie theater, a vintage Goosebumps lunchbox, New York Times games, a variety of inflatable animals, and still more. See lots of pictures by Amanda Hatfield below.
