From overcoming burnout and depression to building a growing international community through fearless songwriting, this rising artist is proving that music has the power to heal, connect, and remind us that even in our darkest moments, there is always a light worth following.

Not every musician begins their journey with a lifelong dream of standing beneath stage lights or hearing thousands of people sing back the words they once wrote alone in their bedroom. Sometimes, the path toward music begins in a much quieter place, born from uncertainty rather than ambition. For this Dutch singer songwriter, music was never simply another creative hobby. It became the lifeline that helped transform one of the most difficult periods of her life into a future she had never imagined.

Growing up in the seaside town of Zandvoort in the Netherlands, live music was always present. Her parents owned a local pub where bands performed regularly, and from an early age she found herself surrounded by guitars, amplifiers, applause, and the unmistakable atmosphere that only live performances can create. Those evenings introduced her to the magic of musicians connecting with an audience, although she never imagined that one day she would be the person standing on stage telling her own story.

Instead, her childhood and teenage years revolved around a completely different passion.

As a competitive dressage rider, she dedicated countless hours to training and eventually earned a place on the Dutch talent team. It was an achievement that reflected years of discipline, sacrifice, and determination. Yet balancing elite level sport with college studies placed an enormous amount of pressure on someone who was still trying to discover who she was. The constant pursuit of perfection slowly became overwhelming, eventually leading to burnout and depression.

Looking back today, she recognizes that period as one of the defining moments of her life, although at the time it felt like everything she had worked for was slipping away.

Searching for something that could help quiet her thoughts, she bought an inexpensive guitar online without expecting it to become anything more than a distraction. Instead, that simple purchase became the beginning of a completely new chapter. Learning chords, experimenting with melodies, and eventually writing lyrics allowed her to process emotions that had previously been impossible to express. Music offered more than entertainment. It became therapy, providing comfort during moments when nothing else seemed capable of doing so.

As her confidence grew, songwriting naturally followed. Local bands, small performances, and countless hours spent teaching herself through online videos gradually replaced the competitive routines that had once defined her daily life. Eventually, she found herself facing another life changing decision when her parents encouraged her to choose between pursuing horse riding professionally or committing entirely to music.

Walking away from a dream she had invested years pursuing was one of the hardest decisions she has ever made, but it ultimately became the decision that allowed her to discover who she truly was.

Searching Beyond the Horizon

Although Zandvoort offered beautiful beaches and a close community, it also inspired many of the emotions that continue to shape her songwriting today. Living in a town of roughly seventeen thousand people often left her feeling as though something larger was waiting beyond the horizon. That persistent feeling of searching for belonging became deeply embedded within her creative identity.

Rather than writing songs about places, she writes about emotional journeys. Her lyrics explore what it means to feel isolated while hoping for connection, to experience anxiety while refusing to surrender to it, and to search endlessly for a place where people are accepted exactly as they are. Those themes resonate because they are not manufactured for commercial appeal. They come directly from lived experience.

That authenticity also explains why she performs under her own name. While many artists build elaborate stage personas, she deliberately chose to remove that separation. Every song reflects who she is both as a musician and as a person, allowing listeners to connect with someone who embraces vulnerability instead of hiding behind carefully constructed images.

Creating a Soundtrack for the Invisible

Attempting to categorize her music within a single genre quickly becomes an impossible task. Elements of alternative pop, modern rock, cinematic production, electronic textures, and contemporary influences all coexist throughout her growing catalogue. Yet focusing solely on genre overlooks the emotional purpose behind every release.

She describes her music as a soundtrack for dreamers, overthinkers, misfits, and anyone who has ever felt invisible. It is an image that perfectly captures the atmosphere surrounding her songs. Rather than pretending life is uncomplicated, her music acknowledges the reality of loneliness, anxiety, self doubt, and emotional exhaustion while simultaneously reminding listeners that hope still exists.

That emotional contrast has become one of her defining artistic signatures. Even when the lyrics venture into difficult territory, there is always an underlying sense that tomorrow can be better than today. Darkness may appear throughout her songwriting, but it never receives the final word.

Her creative process reflects that same honesty. Inspiration rarely follows a schedule. Some songs begin with a guitar riff, while others emerge from fragments of poetry typed into the notes application on her phone. Often, however, her strongest ideas arrive unexpectedly during the early hours of the morning, when emotions become impossible to ignore and creativity flows without interruption. Those late night writing sessions frequently produce songs she barely remembers creating until she listens back the following day, discovering melodies and lyrics that feel almost as though they appeared on their own.

Once the emotional foundation exists, she collaborates closely with her producer, carefully crafting arrangements that preserve the original feeling while expanding the sonic landscape around each composition. Having a clear vision from the beginning allows every production choice to reinforce the emotional story rather than distract from it.

Finding Her Voice and Her Audience

Like many independent artists, confidence did not arrive overnight. Her earliest performances were far removed from packed venues or enthusiastic fan communities. She spent time busking on the beaches of Zandvoort, performing songs by artists she admired, including Avril Lavigne and Billie Eilish, while simultaneously learning how to connect with complete strangers through music.

Although those performances provided valuable experience, something remained missing until she stepped onto a stage to perform her own original material as a supporting act. For the first time, she experienced the unique feeling of an audience responding not to familiar hits but to stories that belonged entirely to her.

From that moment forward, everything began to change.

Listeners started reaching out through social media, sharing how her songs helped them navigate their own struggles with mental health, loneliness, and self acceptance. Familiar faces began appearing at multiple shows, gradually transforming casual listeners into a loyal community that now proudly identifies itself as “The Ghosties.”

That growing connection has become one of the most meaningful aspects of her career. Rather than measuring success solely through statistics or streaming numbers, she increasingly defines it by the relationships created through her music. Every message from someone who feels less alone because of one of her songs reinforces the reason she continues writing.

Success Beyond the Numbers

Although reaching one million streams represented an important milestone, the achievement carried significance for reasons beyond simple numbers. It marked the moment she finally allowed herself to stop chasing constant validation and appreciate how far she had already come.

Before releasing her second EP, Tangled Wiring, she admits becoming consumed by expectations and analytics, constantly worrying about performance rather than enjoying the creative process. That pressure gradually overshadowed the excitement of releasing music. The night before the EP arrived, she consciously chose a different mindset, deciding to release the project into the world without obsessing over its reception.

The result exceeded every expectation.

Within four months, the EP surpassed one million streams and became the most successful project of her career. More importantly, it taught her that creativity flourishes when artists trust their work rather than allowing fear to control it.

Another unforgettable milestone came when fans organized a promotional campaign for her single Crocodile Tears, bringing oversized inflatable crocodiles to radio stations and eventually to one of her live performances. Moments like those represent something far more valuable than algorithms or playlists. They demonstrate the strength of a community that genuinely believes in the music and wants to help it reach new audiences.

Today, her ambitions continue expanding. A new EP, international performances in Japan, an upcoming tour, fresh music videos, and the promise of building an even larger creative universe all point toward an exciting future. Yet despite those growing opportunities, the mission remains remarkably consistent.

She wants listeners to know they are not alone.

Every lyric, every performance, and every release serves that purpose. She hopes her music becomes the shoulder people can lean on during difficult moments while also providing the encouragement they need to keep moving forward.

In an industry often driven by trends and statistics, that commitment to authenticity stands out. Her songs remind us that vulnerability is not weakness, that hope can coexist with heartbreak, and that the strongest communities are built when artists choose honesty over perfection.

For those who have ever questioned where they belong, her music offers something increasingly rare: a place where being different is not only accepted but celebrated. As her audience continues growing across borders and cultures, one thing has become abundantly clear. She is no longer searching for a place that feels like home. Through her music, she is creating one for everyone else.
