Elastica say “we’re back” with “exciting things in the works”

Oasis are back, Pulp are back, Blur have been back and now maybe Elastica are back? They reactivated their social media accounts today, posting a vintage ’90s picture of the band with this caption: “We’ve been busy behind the scenes, but we’re back. Keep your eyes peeled, there are some exciting things in the works.”

What exactly those exciting things are remains to be seen, it could just be a reissue, but let’s hope it means they’re getting the band back together.

One one of the coolest bands of the Britpop era, Elastica made one of the great first albums of the ’90s with their self titled debut that contained such classics as “Connection,” “Stutter,” “Line Up,” “Waking Up,” and more. The band struggled to make a follow up, though, and a second album, The Menace, finally arrived in 2000 to not much fanfare. They broke up 2001.

Singer/guitarist Justine Frischmann, who was also an original member of Suede and one half of the Britpop Power Couple with Damon Albarn, worked with M.I.A. and co-wrote some of her first album, including “Galang.” Guitarist Donna Matthews left Elastica in 1998 and has an improvisational music YouTube Channel, and bassist Annie Holland hasn’t done much, band-wise. The most active member has been drummer Justin Welch, who played as part of the reunited Lush in the 2010s, and currently plays in The Jesus and Mary Chain.
