Interview By Young N’ Loud Magazine

ROOTS AND BEGINNINGS

Purpose: uncover origin, inspiration, and the artist’s authentic voice.

Young N’ Loud: Tell us about the first moment music truly spoke to you not just as sound, but as something deeper.

Mecia Jade: I think I have my mum to thank for this – I remember at the weekends when I was young she would go to town on cleaning the house. She would always blast music, it would be different each week but I would love it when she’d blast some Metallica, Lacuna Coil, Alter Bridge & Iron Maiden.

Rock became second nature to me then, she would take me to motorbike rallies and we would watch bands perform all the classics & I’d stand in awe!

I got to around 13 years old and Evanescence’s ‘Fallen’ album came out & I was hooked. I had this on everyday singing my heart out to it in my bedroom. My obsession with Amy Lee & my journey into Rock had fully begun…

Young N’ Loud: What does your hometown or background mean to your musical identity today?

Mecia Jade:  It inspires me that so many great people can come from this small corner of the world. There is so much talent in this town! I have performed many places over my years, but performing in your home town to your biggest supporters is always amazing. Ipswich seems to always have my back, full of Rockers! Which I’m so grateful for.

Young N’ Loud: Was there a defining moment when you realized this path wasn’t just a dream, but your calling?

Mecia Jade: Honestly, the realisation came later than I’d have liked, but I’m so glad it did — better now than never! I didn’t start doing originals until about three or four years ago. I was quite happy just performing covers every weekend until my friend Josh convinced me to join my first originals band, Circadia, where he played drums.
It was such a learning experience — tough at times because we were all on different pages — but that’s when it hit me that this is what I really want to do. It felt like something just clicked inside me. A year later, I joined Aethoria, and I’m so glad I followed my gut. Even now, I know this is exactly where I’m supposed to be.

Young N’ Loud: Who were the voices or sounds that first inspired your direction — and how have they evolved with you?

Mecia Jade: Amy Lee & Myles Kennedy
Amy Lee – She’s everywhere in my singing if you listen out enough, especially with all her haunting harmonies, which are also very Lacuna Coil-esque.
Myles Kennedy is a huge influence of mine, he can be gritty and powerful, he can be soft and beautiful.
I definitely feel them embedded in my style to this day.

Young N’ Loud: How would you describe the emotional landscape of your earliest music?

Mecia Jade: I think my earlier stuff I can definitely hear a lot of anger here! I think I had some stuff to get out of my system haha!!

ARTISTIC VISION AND CREATIVE PROCESS

Purpose: dive into creativity, originality, and philosophy behind the sound.

Young N’ Loud:
When you start creating, what comes first: emotion, story, rhythm, or instinct?

Mecia Jade:
Most of the time, I write to a riff that Lee has come up with for the band. I like to sit with it for a while and see what emotions or ideas it brings up what it feels like the song is trying to say. From there, I find the subject, then start building melodies and finally the lyrics.
Lately, I’ve been experimenting with writing from scratch myself the musical ideas are usually simpler, but the band helps bring them to life. It’s been a nice way to see my own growth as a songwriter, finding my voice and gaining more confidence along the way.

Young N’ Loud:
Your music feels layered, almost cinematic. What’s the story you aim to tell through it?

Mecia Jade:
I try not to over-explain my songs, because I know not everyone will connect with every lyric or story in the same way. Most of what I write comes from personal experiences, but I like to simplify those emotions a bit so that listeners can find their own meaning in them. Sometimes it just takes one line to really resonate with someone, and that’s what I love most.

Young N’ Loud: Are there moments when creation feels like therapy — a conversation between you and yourself?

Mecia Jade:
100% it feels like therapy! A lot of the time I end up writing things that I hadn’t even known deep down that’s how I’d been thinking or feeling, but once you start it’s like a cup that just keeps on pouring! It’s the best therapy session.

Young N’ Loud: What does authenticity mean to you in today’s music landscape?

Mecia Jade: Authenticity – today with social media it can be tough! It’s super important to me, I just hope we can all remain ourselves through this process & the fans will like us for who we are and what we create.

CHALLENGES, EVOLUTION, AND IDENTITY

Purpose: reveal resilience, growth, and artistic self-awareness.

Young N’ Loud:Every artist faces silence between the songs — the struggles no one hears. What did yours sound like?

Mecia Jade:
Haha – it’s never silent for me! : ) The guys will tell you I am the OCD ADHD one of the band, constantly badgering to get everything done, delegating tasks and always trying to move forward. I don’t want to sit and be stagnant, I want to make up for lost time & make waves quickly! So in between the songs, I am a lady with her list as long as her arm is ready to just keep moving forwards.

Young N’ Loud: How has your music evolved from where you started to where you are now?

Mecia Jade: For me I would say lyrically it’s hugely shifted, when I listen back to some of my first songs I definitely cringe myself out a little haha. But like anything, you’ve got to start somewhere.

Young N’ Loud: What’s the hardest truth you’ve learned about being an artist in this generation?

Mecia Jade: The hardest truth is that you have to pretty much live on social media… that’s just my opinion of course, but if you do & do it well, it makes a huge difference!
It’s not a life I’d choose for myself, but if it benefits our band then it’s something I gotta suck up.
Plus – it’s always nice to meet people & hear what they think about your music!

Young N’ Loud: How do you stay grounded when recognition, expectation, or pressure begins to grow?

Mecia Jade: I am quite a critical person anyway, so even with this influx of recognition, I know there is always so much room for improvement on my behalf. You won’t really ever hear me compliment myself or my work, so I’ll always be pretty grounded! But the pressure is definitely building, I just keep reminding myself how lucky I am to be part of this new chapter.

Young N’ Loud: Do you believe that pain or joy drives creativity more deeply — or is it the balance of both?

Mecia Jade: I believe all feelings can help creativity except from stress & overload! If you’re living in a state of where you can’t connect to your mind & body (like I was for many years) you’re not often aware of the feelings, you have to be able to write about them or be in a creative state. My life is a lot more balanced now, so I can feel each emotion, whether it’s joy, pain, or even just mundane.

THE BAND, THE CONNECTION, THE MESSAGE

Purpose: bring the human side — teamwork, energy, and message to fans.

Young N’ Loud:
If we stripped away the music for a moment what holds the band together at its core?

Mecia Jade:
I think it’s the shared drive and work ethic that really hold us together. Being in this band is almost like having a full-time job; it can be exhausting at times. There’s so much that goes into it beyond the music: writing, recording, social media, merch, applying for gigs, organising shows the list goes on.
I’ve had to change a lot in my own life to make space for it, and I know some of the others have too. We all put in so much behind the scenes, and if it weren’t for that shared motivation, we wouldn’t be standing as strong as we are now.

Young N’ Loud: What message or emotion do you hope people carry with them after listening to your music?

Mecia Jade: Lots of things! But mainly ‘Hope’ I guess.
A lot of the songs are about coming through something big, and that you can always come back stronger each time.

Young N’ Loud: How do you connect with your audience on stage — what’s the energy exchange like for you?

Mecia Jade: I’m pretty small, so I make up for it by going big when I’m on stage! I love putting out loads of energy and getting the crowd involved. I can’t wait for the day we’re doing full shows of our own and the guys can have their solo moments — that’ll be such a buzz.

Young N’ Loud:
In your own words, what makes your music yours — unmistakably, authentically, you?

Mecia Jade:
I’d say the fact these are all the pinpoints of my journey. You can’t get more authentic when you are sharing your raw & honest feelings in your songs & exposing yourself like that.

LEGACY AND THE FUTURE

Purpose: end with meaning and forward vision.

Young N’ Loud: When you look ahead, what does the next chapter of your sound look like?

Mecia Jade: I’d like to think we’d be a little more open & confident with experimenting – so many are loving that we have alternative sounds in with metal / hard rock. I would really love to incorporate ethereal sounds with Epic Heavy Rock, making our music tell a story.

Young N’ Loud: What do you want to be remembered for — as an artist, or as a voice in this generation?

Mecia Jade: It’s never too late to chase your dreams.

Young N’ Loud: If you could send one message to young musicians chasing their dream, what would it be?

Mecia Jade: Persevere – If something feels embedded in you and is in your soul, don’t give up on it! It’s a tough industry, but so much fun if you just appreciate the journey.

Young N’ Loud: What does “being loud” mean to you — in life, in art, in truth?

Mecia Jade:
Being Loud – haha it’s something I relate with! I wish I was a mysterious introvert, but, alas, I am very extroverted and love to be heard haha. I guess being a front woman is very apt. Life is short, if you want your voice heard, go out there & get it heard!

Young N’ Loud: Finally, how do you define success — in your own terms, not the industry’s?

Mecia Jade: To be honest with you I already feel successful!
Obviously I hope the journey keeps going, we gain more incredible fans, we play some awesome gigs & grow as a band! But looking at our short history already, I am so proud of it. I never compliment myself but, I am proud of the success we already have from what we have created,
If you’re talking about achievements, one day I’d LOVE to play Download, I’d probably cry haha. And being able to do this fulltime, would be the ultimate dream.

Closing Note:
This isn’t just an interview — it’s a journey through the artist’s sound, silence, and soul.
Young N’ Loud Magazine continues to celebrate voices that dare to be different — the ones who play louder, dream wilder, and live authentically through their art.
