In September, the remains of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez were discovered in the back of a Tesla registered to the singer. D4vd is well-known in the Fortnite gaming scene, where he got his start writing music for his gaming videos. Shortly after composing an anthem for the game, the teenager’s body was discovered by the LAPD and appear to have been there “for an extended period of time.”
Celeste Rivas Hernandez was reported missing from the Lake Elsinore area in California in April 2024. The cause of her death is still a mystery, though the LAPD initially said the singer was cooperating with them. Shortly after being named a suspect in the death of the teenager, the LAPD reported that D4vd is no longer cooperating with its investigators. Since then, a second suspect has been identified by homicide detectives as possibly related to the case.
That landlord also confirmed D4vd and his manager moved from the home shortly after detectives executed the search warrant and seized electronics from the property. The case appears to have attracted worldwide attention, propelling D4vd to the top of the most-searched people list for Google Trends this year.
This murder case proved more searchable for people than what happened between Jimmy Kimmel and ABC and the election of the new pope, Pope Leo XIV.
