‘How Did I End Up Here?’ Sent Rose Pedal Across an Existentially Interstellar Indie Pop Frontier –

Rose Pedal posed an existential reckoning into the cosmos with the spacey, adrift atmosphere of How Did I End Up Here?, which serves as the opening transmission from an album set to unfold one track at a time.. Tinged with psychedelically cosmic experimentalism, the song unites us through collective bafflement while tearing through the myth that everyone around us has life figured out.

A Tarantino-styled intro welcomes every Texan spaceman into the saddle before the trio nestle into an atmosphere enmeshing sci-fi sonic insignia with tenderly consoling reverberations. Echoes of The National drift through its emotional bloodstream, followed by an interstellar swerve and a fiery spoken word rap verse that sends cerebral wit streaking across the stars.

The Ohio-born trio find themselves in lonely territory by inhabiting the desolate intersection of organic intimacy and digital surrealism, where acoustic warmth seeps into electronica, indie pop and hip hop. Miike Snow’s synth swagger, Gorillaz’s lyrical eccentricity and Coldplay’s emotional magnitude flicker through Rose Pedal’s strange aural organism, which is powered by production from Josh Burnette, mixing by Grammy winner Kennie Takahashi and mastering by Joe LaPorta.

Their wider visual mythology magnifies the single’s scope. Alongside comic book creator Nate Xopher, Rose Pedal are constructing a cinematic sci-fi universe populated by illustrated versions of the band, extending their search for connection across music, character and narrative.
