So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

THE TUBS – “STOOP TO ME”

“‘Stoop To Me’ is us at our most power-pop,” says The Tubs’ Owen Williams. “There’s a few nods to Bob Mould in there as well as a kind of cider-drunk quality via the fiddle parts. To balance this out a bit I wrote from the perspective of a demented cuckold who keeps changing his story mid-chorus. The video (filmed and edited by Kit Harwood) is us playing a secret Gob Nation show with Spike and Garden Centre and doing some karaoke afterwards. A big Gob Nation bash involving lots of boozing in which various homies were passed around old video cameras…spliced in by Kit. A joyful night!” The Tubs’ new album Hard Life is out September 11.

Lauren Spear will release her new album as Le Ren, Don’t Be Funny Without Me, on August 28 and here’s another early taste. “This is a love song about wanting to know your partner in every season of their life but knowing you’ll only get fall and maybe winter if you’re lucky,” Spear says.

RAYLAND BAXTER – “THE FOOL”

“We grow up painting this picture in our minds of what harmony should feel like, what it should look like, and how it can help us get to the next checkpoint,” Rayland Baxter says of his easy-going new track. “But often, I think it’s completely different from the image we’ve created. Then we’re faced with this epic moment where things don’t work out the way we imagined they would, and this precious idea turns into a very real monster. I think most of us try to force that monster back into the shape of the precious idea and stick with it, but that monster can tear us apart and make us feel like a fool.”

BRENNAN WEDL – “LET’S BE MODELS” & “TWO DOLLAR PISTOL”

Here are two more tracks off Brennan Wedl’s upcoming self-titled album and ANTI- debut. “‘Let’s Be Models’ + ‘Two Dollar Pistol’ essentially boil down to the neon orange pixie Stix dust that is friendship in the modern age,” Wedl says. “We’re busy, we’re stressed, we’re having gastrointestinal issues. In the same breath, we’re sparkly, we’re bold and we’re navigating the magic in the mundane, the mysticism of the Monday.”

JOHANNA SAMUELS – “FULL STORY (FT. JORDAN LEHNING)

“I didn’t know what this song was about when I wrote it,” Johanna Samuels says of the latest single off her new album Sorry, Kid. “I just liked it. When I listened back to the mixes this past year it all was so clear. I both love and hate when my songs predict my own future. In retrospect it’s about self respect and knowing that what people may say or think about you doesn’t matter as long as I try my best to understand both sides and know the full story with accountability, an open heart and grounded mind. I’ve lived much of my life deeply worried about what others think of me and one of the personal changes I’ve witnessed since starting this record in 2023 is that I know myself better. I’m stronger. Having an open honest heart doesn’t make you not strong and I’m not ashamed to say that I’m strong anymore. I wish I didn’t care at all what anyone thinks – nobody’s perfect… but I certainly care less. I’m in charge of my side of the street and I do my very best to keep it clean.”

156/SILENCE – “SWEPT FROM UNDER (CALL OF THE VOID)”

“The call of the void is the voice in our heads that wants to self-destruct even when we don’t feel bad,” 156/Silence say of the new single off From a Distance, their upcoming sixth album. “A compulsion to hurt ourselves even if we don’t want to. Being swept from under by intrusive thoughts.”

ELEPHANT STONE – “I GOT A PILL”

Elephant Stone’s Rishi Dir says “I Got a Pill” is about “about demagogues, the populist playbook. Leaders who feed on people’s fear and offer an easy fix. The pill. Take it and your problems go away. Except it doesn’t work like that. It’s control dressed up as relief.” The video plays on those themes…but with puppets.
