While the Trump administration’s Freedom 250 ‘Great American State Fair’ concerts in DC fell apart shortly after being announced — the main attraction is now Lee Greenwood and a Trump Rally on July 4 — another concert celebrating the US’ 250th birthday is now happening in Los Angeles with some pretty big names.
The Smashing Pumpkins and Chris Stapleton will play Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on July 4. Queen Latifah will be the host of the event and tickets will be $17.76, with 5,000 free tickets donated to first responders, veterans, and service workers. The concert, called America’s Block Party, is being presented by America250, a nonpartisan nonprofit established by congress a decade ago. More performers are still to be announced.
“Playing the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on July 4 for America’s 250th is a rare kind of moment,” said The Smashing Pumpkins drummer, Jimmy Chamberlin, in a statement. “We’ve always believed in the power of music to be a unifying principle. It brings people together and allows them to express themselves in a forum that has a common destination- and it allows all of us the opportunity to participate in a celebration that has meaning, history, and impact.”
Tickets go on sale Tuesday, June 16 at 10 AM Pacific.
The concert is part of series of America’s Block Party events that will take place around the US in Charleston, SC, Fort Campbell, KY, NYC and Milwaukee.
