A New Chapter in a Legendary Catalogue
Legendary rockers The Rolling Stones had been teasing a new record for some time, and the upcoming album Foreign Tongues marks their 25th studio release. The band introduced the first two singles from the album, “Rough and Twisted” and “In the Stars,” on May 5th via digital platforms. These are the first new tracks following their previous release Hackney Diamonds. Foreign Tongues will be available on July 10th, promising another addition to the Stones’ catalogue.
The first single, “Rough and Twisted,” is a nod to the band’s early blues roots. The track opens with a bluesy feel and a toe-tapping rhythm, featuring slide guitar, harmonica, and classic blues-style piano and organ throughout. The band had previously released “Rough and Twisted” under “The Cockroaches,” a nickname associated with the Stones during the late 1970s when they played the famous El Mocambo.
“In the Stars” opens with a softer atmosphere before quickly building into an upbeat rock track driven by a classic Keith Richards riff, a signature sound he has carried throughout the band’s
career. The song’s catchy chorus gives it a strong melodic feel, balancing well against the blues-heavy tone of “Rough and Twisted.”
