Taylor Swift has already broken yet another Spotify record with the release of her “Opalite” music video. The release delivered the biggest single-day streaming performance for a video on the platform, and makes Swift the record-holder for the largest streaming day on Spotify across four categories: album, artist, song, and music video.
The “Opalite” video debuted on Friday, February 6, as part of a meticulously planned, platform-exclusive release. The video launched exclusively on Spotify Premium and Apple Music—completely skipping YouTube in the first wave, amid the platform’s decision to pull out of the Billboard charts.
Swift’s “Opalite” has been a breakout hit and the second single from her The Life of a Showgirl album. It follows the immediate success of “The Fate of Ophelia,” which became the most-streamed song in a single day on Spotify on October 3. The album itself shattered Spotify’s record for the most-streamed album in a single day upon its release.
Shortly after the video’s debut, Swift shared a carousel of photos on Instagram, providing fans with a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of “Opalite.”
“My favorite part about writing is that first spark of an idea,” wrote Swift. “It can happen at any time, for any reason. The idea for the Opalite music video crash-landed into my imagination when I was doing promo for The Life of a Showgirl. I was a guest on one of my favorite shows, [The Graham Norton Show].
The “Opalite” video made its YouTube debut two days later on Sunday, February 8.
