So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

ROBYN HITCHCOCK – “YESTERDAY’S RAIN”

“Yesterday’s rain falls on tomorrow’s parade,” says Robyn Hitchcock of his new single, beginning with a quote from the lyrics. “The sins of the past call the shots for the future. And on the way, you get the flag, the lilac tomb, and the crocodile on skis. It’s all good! More classic Brit-rock, played as only Americans can.” The video is great too and features cameos from Maria Bamford, Eugene Mirman, and David Herman. Robyn’s new album The Confuser is out July 24.

CHAT PILE – “PEN I S MALL”

Stin calls “PEN I S MALL,” the new single off Chat Chile’s new album Who Loves the Sun, “the heaviest Chat Pile song to date. The song and title refer to a stretch of time when Raygun was working as a maintenance man at one of the local shopping malls here in OKC. He screamed himself into a pretty brutal headache tracking this one if I remember correctly,” Ray B. adds, “If survival wasn’t so brutal in the United States, a maintenance job at a local mall could in theory be a fun gig… Of course, the awful beast known as Capitalism is extremely rickety with not enough to truly go around in fair share as those in the lower and even middle positions know all to well.”

SAD13 – “LOCUST REMOVER” & “MEAN, VINDICTIVE, ARROGANT”

Sasdie Dupuis has shared two more minute-long songs from upcoming mixtape 1331.

KELELA – “THE BRIDGE” (FT. PINKPANTHERESS)

BONOBO – “FIRE ON THE WATER” FT AROOJ AFTAB & “DRIFT”

“I had the dreamiest time making this song with Simon in the Redwoods,” Arooj Aftab says of her collaboration with Bonobo from his upcoming album Distance in the Static. “He is a boyish joy and a beautiful soul. The lyrics, written by my dear friend Yasra Rizvi, live in that tender place where time keeps moving but desire remains. There can still be fire on the water.” This is one of two new Bonobo songs out today.

SLOW PULP – “NOT FOR NOTHING”

Slow Pulp’s new album Melodie is out in September, and they’ve shared a new track from it, the ballad “Not for Nothing.” “This song is me just trying to externalize very complex emotions – of feeling stuck, of not being able to change how I feel, of my emotions permeating my life, and the heartbreak of my life changing in ways both unexpected by myself and by others,” Henry Stoehr, who wrote the song, says. “I feel so many people have felt something similar, and I wanted to write a song that would reach people where they are, and give them something concrete to grasp onto in the midst of a feeling that is hard to put into words.”

SNõõPER – “RECESS”

Nashville’s Snooper go full EDM on this new single released to celebrate the start of their tour.

TOLD SLANT – “MANHATTAN”

Felix Walworth announced their first album as Told slant in 6 years, What’s Up, due September 4 via Mtn. Laurel. They call this one their “New York record,” and of first single “Manhattan,” Walworth says, “New York becoming a shrine to capitalism and the underground being unable to mount any effective resistance,” adding, “this whole other set of knowledge of what living in the city as an artist could be, both from living it, and from my parents… The defeat of the song is all of those people’s dreams being crushed.”

IBIBIO SOUND MACHINE – “GIVE ME PEACE”

“‘Give Me Peace’ is about finding calm in a world that is trying to tear us down. Once we established that direction, the song seemed to write itself,” say Ibibio Sound Machine of this new song featuring Egypt 80’s Dele Sosimi. Chopping Mountain is out September 11 via Merge.

WISHY – “ALL THE RAGE”

About “All The Rage,” the infectious latest single off Wishy’s new album Nature’s Pill, Kevin Krauter says, “Hello Lovelies and welcome to the official Wishy press blurb for the second single !!!! Yayyy the song is out we are so happy!! 🙂 Some *~Fun Facts~* about this song number 1. i wrote it after seeing artificial go and good flying birds play an awesome show major inspo 2. my roommate judah gave me some good pointers while i was writing it shoutout to him and 3. the band played all together while recording this one 🙂 ok thanx enjoy!!!”

NATION OF LANGUAGE – “THE CONVERSATION”

“’The Conversation’ is a song that’s been haunting me for a few years now – one of my personal favorites I’ve written, yet it’s never found a home on an album,” says Ian Devaney of Nation of Language’s new standalone single. “It’s extremely contained in the sense that when I write out the lyrics it reads more like a standalone poem than most of our songs, and it dabbles in storytelling in a much different way than I’m used to doing. It’s a vignette, centered around two people whose lives are so intertwined, and have been moving towards this one conversation, this inflection point, where the things that need to be said might finally be said.”

SON LUX – “WANT YOU TO LOVE”

“‘Want You To Love’ is a banger built on a couple bits of band improvisation, flipped like samples,” Son Lux’s Ryan Lott says of the latest single off their new album Out Into. “The result feels more boom-bap than anything we’ve done in the past, and it’s as close I’ve come to screaming into a mic. It’s a song about how we trade what is priceless for things of no value. Why is it so easy to forget ourselves?”

GERALD V. CASALE (DEVO) – “JUST DO IT!” FT. DIE ALTEN MASCHINEN
