Metallica celebrated the launch of their new SiriusXM station, Maximum Metallica, by playing their most intimate show in years on Thursday night (8/28). It happened outside Long Island’s Stephen Talkhouse, under a 500-capacity tent, where the band ripped through a 13-song set loaded with classics. They also paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, with Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo jamming “Crazy Train” for their nightly “doodle.” “This reminds us of the club days,” James Hetfield told the crowd, as Rolling Stone points out. “Getting hot and sweaty and up close and personal.” Howard Stern, Paul McCartney, Andy Cohen, Colin Jost, Heidi Gardner, Michael J. Fox, Ed Burns, Chris Jericho, Maria Menounos, Sylvester Stallone, and Chad Smith were among those in attendance.

For those who couldn’t go in person, the show will begin streaming on Maximum Metallica (channel 42) on Monday, September 1 at 12pm ET, and will rebroadcast throughout the week. It’ll also air on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM channel on Friday, September 5 at 7pm ET and PT, and it’ll be available on the SiriusXM app.
