Justin Timberlake is suing the luxe Long Island town of Sag Harbor in a move to block the public release of the bodycam footage of his DWI arrest.

Justin Timberlake is going to great lengths to stop the public release of bodycam footage of his drunk driving arrest, a video that would certainly carry tremendous viral potential online. The “SexyBack” singer has sued the upper-crust Long Island city of Sag Harbor in an attempt to block the video’s release.

According to court documents, Timberlake is seeking a court order from a Suffolk County Supreme Court judge to block release of the footage. The recording was captured by officers during his traffic stop and subsequent arrest in June 2024, and is currently the subject of a Freedom of Information Act request filed by media figures.

The filing claims that the bodycam footage contains “intimate details” of Timberlake’s “physical appearance, demeanor, speech, and conduct” during his field sobriety test, arrest, and confinement thereafter. Timberlake also argues that the footage depicts him “in an acutely vulnerable state.”

His attorney, Michael Del Piano, also claimed that the release of the footage would cause “severe and irreparable harm” to Timberlake’s “personal and professional reputation,” and would subject him to “public ridicule and harassment.” Further, Del Piano asserted that releasing the footage would serve “no legitimate public interest in understanding the operations of government” and “would constitute an unwarranted invasion” of the singer’s privacy.

Timberlake was arrested on June 18, 2024, after allegedly running a stop sign and swerving between lanes in his 2025 BMW after a night out with friends. The former *NSYNC member claimed he had only had one martini, but the responding officer said that he failed his field sobriety test, and that Timberlake showed signs of poor balance and an inability to follow instructions.

At the time, sources told the media that the officer who pulled Timberlake over was “so young that he didn’t even know” who the pop star was.

Timberlake ultimately pleaded not guilty to driving while intoxicated, but agreed to plead guilty to driving while ability impaired by alcohol, which is a lesser (and, crucially, noncriminal) charge. He was ordered to perform 25 hours of community service and pay a $500 fine, as well as a $260 surcharge. His license was also suspended in New York for 90 days.
