Joy Division is getting a 16-disc live box set titled Eternal: Live that will be out September 25 via Rhino. While live tracks have appeared before, like on compilation Still, this is the band’s first-ever official collection of live recordings and it features 14 CDs with audio from 16 different performances, sourced from audience cassettes, soundboard tapes, and broadcast recordings, all mastered at Abbey Road Studios.

There are also two DVD featuring two and a half hours of live footage, including the Plan K Brussels concert, two Apollo Theatre Manchester shows, a soundcheck, and a new edit of Joy Division – A Malcolm Whitehead Film.

Eternal: Live also comes with a 16-page booklet featuring notes by Simon Armitage and photography by Anton Corbijn and Kevin Cummins, and the box set packaging features artwork by Warren Jackson, Peter Saville, Howard Wakefield and Brett Wickens, with cover art photography (Sirius Through a Defocused Telescope, 2023) by Wolfgang Tillmans.

You can listen to “Transmission” recorded at Les Bains Douches, Paris, 18th December, 1979 now. Check that out and the cover art, packaging, and tracklist, below.

Meanwhile, the “Ian Curtis: Insight” exhibition opens today at the Voltz Clarke Gallery (195 Chrystie St) and runs through July 22. It’s free and open to the public.
