Back in January, horror/sci-fi icon and musician John Carpenter announced some rare live shows in Los Angeles for Halloween. A couple months later, he revealed that he’d warm up for those with a pair of NYC shows at Knockdown Center, the first of which happened on Thursday night (10/10), just in time for Day One of New York Comic Con. It was his first live performance in seven years, and he was joined for the occasion by his regular collaborators Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies. They played lots of material from his iconic film scores, including pieces from Halloween, Escape From New York, Assault on Precinct 13, The Fog, and The Thing, and gave a couple of tracks from their Lost Themes series, “Last Rites” from IV and “Alive After Death” from III, their live debuts. They also played an unreleased song, “Lord of the Underground,” which Carpenter told the crowd was from the upcoming Lost Themes V: Cathedral.
Check out pictures from Thursday night’s show by Kenneth Bachor below, along with the setlist and attendee taken video.
Meanwhile, Alex G did a cover of the Halloween theme at his Thursday night show happening a borough over in Brooklyn.
