Chicago indie rockers Friko have announced their second full-length album. Something Worth Waiting For, the follow-up to 2024’s Where we’ve been, Where we go from here, is due out April 24 via ATO. It was produced by John Congleton, and drummer Bailey Minzenberger says, “On our first record we were much more involved in the technical aspect of everything, but this time John made it clear that he wanted us to just come in and do our thing. I think that allowed us to let go in a way that we never had before, and because of that we captured something very raw.” See the cover art and tracklist below.
The first single is “Seven Degrees,” which sketches itself out in simple acoustic folk before filling in with layers of sound. “For a long time I thought the saying was ‘seven degrees of separation’ and not ‘six,’” vocalist and guitarist Niko Kapetan says. “There’s a lightness to that song but really it’s about connection, and trying to stay close to the people you care about.” Watch the video, produced by Infinite Dog, below.
Friko will play a hometown release show for Something Worth Waiting For at Chicago’s Metro on April 25. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 6 at 10 AM CST, and it’s their only upcoming show at the moment.
