Goth icons Dead Can Dance are back with their first new music in five years, a single titled “Our Day Will Come.” Don’t get too too excited: If Lisa Gerrard is on this she’s not singing, but the sonorous baritone of Brendan Perry is front and center, backed by a typically cinematic, lush arrangement and sweeping melody.
“‘Our Day Will Come’ is dedicated to the shared national aspirations of the Irish and Palestinian peoples,” DCD say. “The song title is a direct reference and translation of the traditional Irish Republican slogan Tiocfaidh ár lá. A slogan that embodies the aspirations of the Irish people in their shared vision of a united Ireland free from foreign colonial rule. In light of the appalling ongoing genocide in Palestine the solidarity between our two peoples has never been stronger.” Listen below.
In other news, Dead Can Dance’s 4AD catalog is now available on Bandcamp. That includes 1985’s Speel & Ideal, which we included on our list of Classic Goth’s 13 Greatest Albums.
