CBGB Fest 2025 in pics: Iggy Pop, Jack White, The Damned, Johnny Marr and more

The 2025 CBGB Festival was a great mix of nostalgia, a showcase for the current state of punk, and a tribute to the iconic, long-shuttered NYC punk venue for which it was named. It was a beautiful day on Saturday and music stayed constant across the three stages Under the K Bridge. The main stage, CBGB Stage, was where most people stayed with an incredible lineup of veteran acts, including a hard to pass up one-two punch of Jack White and Iggy Pop, both of whom delivered sets full of their most classic songs (and both of whom streamed live on Veeps). Jack White’s “Seven Nation Army” and Iggy’s “The Passenger” tied for biggest mass singalong of the fest.

The CBGB stage also boasted sets from The Damned, featuring three fourths of the original lineup (Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Rat Scabies); Johnny Marr, who played loads of Smiths songs; NYC punk vets Lunachicks; and the delicious sludge that is Melvins.

At the other end of the venue was Hilly’s Stage, named for CBGB founder Hilly Kristal, which which featured hometown heroes who played CBGBs a lot back in the day — Gorilla Biscuits, Murphy’s Law, Cro-Mags — plus Marky Ramone (who only got to play CB’s once with the Ramones as he joined in late 1978). Hilly’s Stage also had great sets from newer bands Angel Du$t, Soul Glo, and Lip Critic.

In between the CBGB Stage and Hilly’s Stage was the Young Punks Stage which featuring an awesome lineup of new bands, with blazing sets from Pinkshift, Lambrini Girls, The Linda Lindas and Scowl, plus Teen Mortgage, Destroy Boys and The Molotovs.

Perhaps more famous than some of the musicians onstage was the memorabilia from the club that they had on display throughout the grounds. They had the bar and a replica of the CBGB’s facade in one location, and the infamous bathroom was there too, appropriately on the way out of the main porta-potty area. There was also Hilly Kristal’s office, though that was only accessible to people in the large VIP section, and portions of CB’s graffiti-and-stickers covered walls were on display as well. The only major thing missing was a vendor selling Hilly’s Chili (if someone was, I missed it).
