The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announces the class of 2026, following an incredible list of 17 nominees, more than ever before.

There were a whopping 17 nominees put up for selection for this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, which is more than ever before in the organization’s storied history. But only eight performers were voted into the class of 2026.

This year, the new inductees are Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Oasis, Sade, Luther Vandross, and Wu-Tang Clan. The nine contenders that were on the ballot but did not make it in this year include the Black Crowes, Jeff Buckley, Mariah Carey, Melissa Etheridge, Lauryn Hill, INXS, New Edition, Pink, and Shakira.

Besides the eight inductees, there are 10 additional stars who were selected outside of the voting process by Rock Hall committee members. These selections were not added as traditional “performers,” but in the Early Influencer, Musical Excellence, and Ahmet Ertegun Award categories.

The Early Influencer Award went to Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and Gram Parsons. The Musical Excellence Award went to Linda Creed, Arif Mardin, Jimmy Miller, and Rick Rubin. Finally, the late, great Ed Sullivan received the singular Ahmet Ertegun Award.

All honorees were announced live on the air during Monday night’s Hall of Fame-themed American Idol episode, by 2022 inductee Lionel Richie and Ryan Seacrest. The proper induction ceremony will take place on November 14 in Los Angeles, and will air on ABC and Disney+ in December.

The show has, in recent years, aired live on Disney+ before an edited version was shown months later on ABC, but producers indicate a live broadcast is not in the cards this year.

Notably, Phil Collins was already a member of the Hall of Fame from his Genesis days, but this was the first year he was on the ballot as a solo artist. Luther Vandross and Wu-Tang Clan were also first-time nominees who made it in on their first try. Oasis, Iron Maiden, and Joy Division/New Order have been on the ballot two other times, while Billy Idol and Sade got in on their second try.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see how Oasis singer Liam Gallagher feels about his induction, having railed against the organization in the past. Oasis was first nominated in 2024, to which Gallagher posted on the former Twitter, “Fuck the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, it’s full of BUMBACLARTS.”

At the time, the Gallagher brothers were still estranged, but now that they’ve made amends, it’s possible the duo will make a rare appearance together (aside from their reunion tour, of course) for their induction.
