After 15 years of waiting, punk rock veterans Social Distortion have released Born to Kill. The highly anticipated album dropped on May 8th via Epitaph Records, marking the band’s eighth studio release. Ahead of the album, the band released the singles “Born to Kill,” “Partners in Crime,” and “The Way Things Were.”

Classic Energy Meets Refreshed Edge

Born to Kill feels like a mix of Social Distortion’s punk rock energy with a more refreshed edge. It’s especially striking considering Mike Ness has battled tonsil cancer in recent years, yet his voice sounds as powerful as ever. Whether he’s leaning into rockabilly, country, or straight-up punk, his vocal identity remains instantly recognizable.

A Surprising Take on “Wicked Game”

After such a long gap between records, one of the biggest surprises is their take on Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game.” Ness’s delivery on the high notes is especially impressive, and the song easily stands out as one of the album’s highlights.
