Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham Attacked by Stalker

Ex-Fleetwood Mac guitarist and vocalist Lindsey Buckingham was attacked by a woman in Santa Monica, according to law enforcement.

Lindsey Buckingham, Fleetwood Mac’s former guitarist and vocalist, was attacked by a woman described by authorities as a stalking suspect when he showed up for an appointment in Santa Monica. He was not injured.

The 76-year-old Buckingham entered the building, and authorities say the woman immediately threw an unknown substance at the musician and fled. Police have identified the suspect, but as of Wednesday had not made any arrests.

Buckingham recognized the woman from past incidents, according to law enforcement. They believe the suspect found out the location and time of Buckingham’s appointment and planned the encounter.

Both Santa Monica police and the LAPD are working the case, authorities told NBC4 Los Angeles. Representatives for Buckingham did not immediately respond to media requests for comment.

A California native, Lindsey Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975. His hits with the band include “Go Your Own Way,” “Big Love,” and “Tusk.” During his tenure with them, he won two Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for Rumours, which was recorded in California in 1976.

Buckingham has a long personal and professional history with bandmate Stevie Nicks, and the two have quarrelled often both on social media and in person. As a result, he was dismissed from the group in 2018.

However, the pair seemed to make amends last year, having reissued their album Buckingham Nicks, which had long been out of print. While Nicks has long cast doubt on the possibility of a reunion—especially since the passing of keyboardist Christine McVie in 2022—Buckingham didn’t rule it out entirely.

“I believe with all my heart it will translate to something good, and something wonderful, and something needed, and something extremely appropriate,” he said in a post on Instagram, stopping short of promising a Fleetwood Mac reunion.

Buckingham is planning to release a new solo album, and also mentioned the upcoming Fleetwood Mac documentary on Apple, directed by Frank Marshall.
