beatBread co-founder and CEO Peter Sinclair has passed away at 50.

beatBread co-founder and CEO Peter Sinclair has passed away at the age of 50 following “a short illness.”

The music funding company revealed the unfortunate news in a brief email this morning. According to that message, Sinclair passed “surrounded by his family in Los Angeles” on Saturday, August 23rd. Additionally, a local obituary mentioned a “short but fierce battle with cancer.”

While beatBread didn’t disclose interim-leadership plans, it did recap the professional achievements of the “inspiring visionary” Sinclair. And on a more personal note, the business also emphasized that the Green Dot and Universal Music vet was “a beloved husband, father, friend and colleague whose warmth, wisdom and passion touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.”

“Everyone at beatBread is shattered by this news,” added beatBread co-founder, COO, and chief data scientist John Haller. “Peter was a passionate and dedicated leader, whose unshakable belief in the importance of artist independence has helped inspire every decision we’ve made. We mourn him deeply, and we’re as committed as ever to honoring his legacy as we move forward.”

“The entire beatBread community – employees, leadership, our investors, and partners – stand united in both grief and purpose,” added beatBread itself, which announced a $124 million funding round earlier in August. “We are mourning the loss of a remarkable leader and friend, and we remain steadfast in carrying forward the mission that Peter built.

“Peter worked tirelessly to ensure that the vision for beatBread was shared, nurtured, and strengthened by the entire team around him. Together, the team will continue the work to which he dedicated himself with such passion,” the Deal Comparison Tool creator continued.

Besides pulling down the above-highlighted funding and launching the Deal Comparison Tool, beatBread has continued to build out its executive team to this point in 2025. That includes but isn’t limited to the addition of Michelle Greener Goodman as head of sales.
