Kacey Musgraves Cancels Dates Without Explanation

Kacey Musgraves cancels three dates on her upcoming tour, seemingly out of nowhere, including the show that would have served as the opening night.

Kacey Musgraves was scheduled to kick off her upcoming Middle of Nowhere Tour on August 20 in Chicago, but that performance, as well as two others in major cities, has suddenly been canceled. The country star has also canceled her August 29 stop in Boston and her September 2 show in Brooklyn.

However, all three shows were added to the schedule after the initial tour announcement, which seemed like a response to demand from fans buying up tickets. Musgraves will still perform shows in each of those cities, so the affected fans will presumably still have the opportunity to catch her on a different night.

So far, no reason for the cancellations has been provided, but fans suspect it’s another case of the dreaded “blue-dot fever”—in which performers aren’t selling enough seats to move forward with the full slate of shows. The term references Ticketmaster’s blue dots used to indicate seats that haven’t yet sold.

Ticketmaster announced the cancellations with a message on its website when users attempt to buy tickets for those dates. Ticketholders should also receive an email noting that refunds will be issued to the original method of payment within 14-21 days.

According to TMZ, the issue is thankfully not health-related and is instead tied to scheduling conflicts. Notably, Musgraves herself has yet to address the matter, but she’s far from the only artist to have had to cut a few shows in recent months.

Many artists have either cited financial concerns or blamed outside forces such as weather or health, but a select few have conceded that there wasn’t enough interest to put butts in seats.

Within the last year, artists who have canceled shows unexpectedly have included Post Malone, Kiefer Sutherland, Rod Stewart, The Pussycat Dolls, Drowning Pool, and even Shakira. Most recently, ‘80s and ‘90s duo Roxette announced the cancellation of their North American tour that would have celebrated their 40th anniversary.
