Boy Harsher (Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller) have just released their first new music in four years. It’s a single titled “Jeans” and the duo are leaning into the ’80s more than ever, in that bright shiny way depicted in the era’s teen films. You can almost smell the mall Orange Julius with this one and I mean that in the best possible way.
“‘Jeans’ came from two distinct experiences between Gus and I,” says Jae. “I was living in a ‘small town’ trying to understand my life, attempting freedom from the pressure of being ‘anyone.’ Meanwhile, Gus was chasing his aspirations in the Big Apple. We both were seeking our dreams in polar ways … and in this cheeky way, ‘Jeans’ speaks on that quest through our commodification of a dream.”
The video for “Jeans,” directed by Muller, is pretty great, too. They say: “we wanted to make our own robert palmer, addicted to love // we wanted to line dance in latex // hot hands and cattle prods // we wanted to try to encapsulate that small town feeling in an inaccessible apple.” They did it and you can watch below and stay tuned for more music from Boy Harsher soon.
Boy Harsher will be on tour this fall with Choir Boy, Evanora Unlimited, True Blue, and Kassie Krut on select dates. The tour wraps up at NYC’s Knockdown Center on November 5 with True Blue and Kassie Krut. All dates are listed below.
