That’s a wrap on the 2025 edition of Riot Fest, which ran over the weekend at Chicago’s Douglass Park. It was the festival’s 20th anniversary edition, and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson declared September 21 “Riot Fest Day,” calling founder Riot Mike “an institution,” as Chicago Sun Times points out. “You’re a part of the legacy in the history of Chicago,” Johnson continued. “The way you bring people together from all different backgrounds…to have a fest like this in North Lawndale on the west side, where Black, Brown, white, Asian, young, old, no matter what political stripe or what cultural stripe, whether you are part of the Great Migration of descendants of slaves or you’re part of the vast immigrant community that have called Chicago home, you are Chicago.”

Green Day closed out the night on Sunday, playing a hits-filled set. Billie Joe Armstrong, as he often does, took the opportunity to speak out against the Trump administration, asking the crowd, “Do you want fascism in America? Do you want tanks rolling down the streets of Chicago? Because we’re not going to take this.” He also blasted the FCC ahead of “Holiday.”

Sunday at Riot Fest also featured the reunited Texas is the Reason, IDLES (who brought out Saturday headliner Jack White for “Never Fight a Man With a Perm”), The Wonder Years, Bad Religion, Microwave, Hanson (who, like blink-182 did on Friday, brought out Descendents’ Stephen Egerton for a rendition of “Hope,” and they also kept the John Stamos love going by bringing him out for “MMMBop”), Ovlov, The Linda Lindas, Smoking Popes, and more.
