Hot off their Best New Artist nom, Katseye announces that member Manon Bannerman will take a temporary hiatus from the group to focus on her health.

Global girl group Katseye has announced that member Manon Bannerman will take a temporary hiatus from group activity to “focus on her health and wellbeing.” The group posted a statement on social media that its members had discussed Bannerman’s hiatus and “fully support this decision.”

“After open and thoughtful conversations together, we are sharing that Manon will be taking a temporary hiatus from group activities to focus on her health and wellbeing,” their statement reads. “Katseye remains committed to showing up for one another and for the fans who mean everything to us. The group will continue scheduled activities during this time, and we look forward to being together again when the time is right.”

The news comes amid a meteoric rise to fame for the HYBE-launched group, which was recently nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards. Besides Bannerman, the group includes Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, Sophia Laforteza, and Yoonchae Jeung. While not strictly a K-pop group, Katseye climbed the ranks as K-pop trainees on the 2023 reality competition series, “Dream Academy.”

Earlier this month, Katseye performed their hit “Gnarly” at the Grammy Awards, while their track “Gabriela” was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. The group has released two EPs since their debut and dropped a handful of singles. “Gnarly” became their first song to hit the Billboard Hot 100 last year, while their newest hit, “Internet Girl,” debuted at #29 on the chart last month.

While the stresses of fame and sudden stardom might not seem like a big deal to some, other artists have spoken out about their struggles with it. Meghan Trainor spoke about how she “couldn’t keep up” following her rise to international fame back in 2014.

“My health couldn’t keep up. I got bronchitis all the time. I was so sick and didn’t know how to take care of myself,” said Trainor in 2022.

“I was so naïve of what was happening,” she said. “I was so sure [that] every door will finally open. I finally worked hard enough that now everyone will want to work with me and it would be easy now.”
