D4vd Goes from Fortnite Hero to Zero — Epic Issues Refunds

As D4vd faces murder charges, Fortnite creator Epic Games confirms it will refund D4vd cosmetics for any player who requests it via player support.

Musician and Fortnite player D4vd, who got his start making content centered on the game before he began making his own music, has been charged with the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. Now, Fortnite creator Epic Games confirms it will issue refunds for D4vd cosmetics for any player who makes a request through the game’s player support.

The 21-year-old singer, whose real name is David Burke, allegedly killed Rivas Hernandez on or around April 23, 2025, after she threatened to report their relationship. Her dismembered body was found by authorities back in September in the trunk of an impounded Tesla registered to Burke after employees reported a foul odor. He has pleaded not guilty to several charges, including first-degree murder and lewd and lascivious acts with a person under 14.

For months, Fortnite players had asked Epic Games to remove D4vd-related content, including emotes and jamtracks, from the game. D4vd released the first-ever official anthem for Fortnite’s Global Championship in a partnership announced just days before Rivas Hernandez’s body was found in his car.

Now, players on social media have reported success in getting a refund for their D4vd items from Epic by contacting them through player support.

“We hear the concerns. We have a bunch of changes we’re rolling out over time. The first one will be available on Teusday, April 28th, when anyone who purchased one of these items will be able to get an immediate self-service refund,” read a statement from Epic Games. “And, right now, players who request refunds for D4vd cosmetics via player support can be refunded.”

Fortnite players have also asked the company to remove the D4vd content from their accounts if they obtained them without purchasing, such as through tournament placements, but it’s unknown if or how Epic will remove these. Epic has yet to confirm if it will remove D4vd cosmetics from the game entirely, but doing so might be part of the aforementioned changes the company plans to roll out this week.
