An investment funded by Universidad Siglo 21 and production company Universo Jiménez will see a $12 million venue, named Domo Siglo 21, open in Argentina in late 2027 or early 2028. The venue is due to have a capacity of 4,500 and will be located on the university campus in Córdoba, near the city’s airport.
The project comes five years after the Orfeo Superdomo closed its doors. The Superdomo hosted high-profile concerts and sports events in the city and was designed by the same firm as the new venue. The new venue is much smaller than the old arena’s capacity, which supported 14,000 people for sports and between 8,000 – 12,000 people during concert events. The arena closed its doors in 2020 during the pandemic and has not reopened them since.
Domo Siglo 21 is planned to feature 360-degree surround sound and ultra-high-definition LED screens, a dozen VIP boxes, and full accessibility. The venue is being designed with the ability to host sporting, cultural, academic, and corporate events as a hub within Córdoba.
“[The project is a] symbol of convergence, a place where academia meets art, where culture meets innovation, and where knowledge is transformed into experience,” said Universidad Siglo 21 Foundation Vice President, María Belén Mendé.
“It is also a commitment to Córdoba, which, with its status as a productive center and its always-collaborative ecosystem, inspires us to continue investing and reaffirm our commitment as a university, leading the construction of the future.”
Promoters are hoping to host up to 200 international and domestic events annually in the arena. They claim the venue will generate more than 700 jobs and will generate between $27 million and $30 million each year.
