Amazon announces the integration of AI-powered Alexa+ into the Amazon Music app, available now for select users on both iOS and Android.

Today, Amazon has announced that Alexa+, the upgraded and AI-powered version of its virtual assistant, is rolling out to the Amazon Music app for both iOS and Android devices.

Currently, the feature is available across all Amazon Music subscription plans, but is only available for users with Alexa+ Early Access. It will become fully available in the coming weeks. To access Alexa+ when available, tap the “a” logo button in the lower right corner.

Introducing Alexa+ to Amazon Music aims to make music discovery more conversational. The AI-powered assistant enables users to ask questions conversationally rather than issuing only basic commands. Users can ask specific questions, like asking for help to recall a song title by providing the lyrics you can remember or a movie in which it was featured.

Unsurprisingly, Alexa+ can also create personalized playlists based on specific requests. For example, Amazon’s example asks for a playlist of 2010s hits to keep you moving, starting with a track from Nicki Minaj.

Alexa+ was first announced back in February, at Amazon’s hardware event. The assistant is aimed at being more consumer-focused than its competitors, and can perform actions on a user’s behalf, like ordering groceries or making restaurant reservations.

While Alexa+ is still in the early stages and isn’t yet available to everyone, more than a million users currently have access on iOS and Android devices. The company reported that Amazon Music users who now have access to Alexa+ are already exploring songs three times more than with the original assistant, while those seeking recommendations are listening to about 70% more music.

Amazon Music already has numerous AI features incorporated into its app, such as weekly AI-generated playlists, AI-assisted search, and an “Explore” function to help users learn more about their favorite artists. The company certainly hopes Alexa+ will be able to compete head-on with Spotify’s recent integration with ChatGPT, making the rollout a well-timed move for Amazon.
