Suno announced today that is has released version 5.5, which it calls “our best and most expressive model yet.” New features include Voices, Custom models, and My Taste.

Suno says the capabilities it’s putting in place today lay the foundation for the next generation of music models it is launching with the music industry later this year. Suno says this latest model doesn’t just help create music, “but fully reflects the person making it.”

The first new feature is the launch of Voices, which will be available to Suno Pro and Premier subscribers. The feature includes a verification process that matches the singing voice in your live-captured or uploaded audio to a random phrase that Suno asks the user to speak. Voices on Suno are private; only the person who uploaded the voice can use it to create new songs. Suno says in the future it plans on adding Voice sharing, but that aspect of this new feature remains on the horizon.

Alongside Voices, Suno is also launching two new custom personalization options to make the service tailored to the listener. The Custom models feature allows users to tune 5.5 music that you’ve created to build a personalized version of the model that knows your style. Pro and Premier subscribers can create up to three custom models for now.

The ‘My Taste’ feature is a different kind of personalization that is more akin to algorithmic tastes on other digital service providers. Suno can learn the type of music you’re drawn to, your favorite genres, and the moods that keep you coming back. This is the only feature that is part of the 5.5 model release today that is available to everyone.

Suno is rolling out version 5.5 of its model just as Google rolls out its latest AI music system, Lyria 3 Pro. Lyria 3 Pro is part of Google’s DeepMind division’s AI suite, which promises more detail instrumental rendering and dynamic control tailored for artists and producers. The back-to-back launches underscore the intensifying competition between AI companies, each vying to define the creative tools that are shaping AI-assisted music production.
