So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

EMPRESS OF – “DREAM HOUSE”

Empress Of wrote her new single “Dream House” following the Los Angeles fires that destroyed her family home. “I wrote ‘Dream House’ in Norway on a fjord after my house had burned down,” she says. “My childhood best friend moved there and in an attempt to find a home anywhere outside of LA, I flew there and spent a couple of weeks making music. It felt jarring and lonely, not exactly the comfort I was hoping for, but one afternoon I made a little voice memo while playing a piano mumbling the phrase….i wanna build a dream for you. That’s when this whole thing kind of started. Like a little spark. Someone said a phoenix isn’t born it’s remembered and in making this I remembered why I make music.”

PORTUGAL. THE MAN & MARSHMELLO – “PHOENIX”

“Growing up in Alaska as the son of dog mushers, music never felt like a reachable world, so there’s still a part of me that can’t believe I get to work with people I’ve looked up to—especially someone like Marshmello,” John Gourley of Portugal. The Man says of his new single with Marshmello. “Working on ‘Phoenix’ with him was incredibly fun and easy, no ego, no overthinking—just chasing the feeling until it stuck. The song’s about that cycle—breaking down and coming back stronger—and I’m grateful for the trust and energy he brought into it.”

JJEROME87 (ALT J’S JOE NEWMAN) – “BRUSH ME LIKE A HORSE”

alt-J lead vocalist Joe Newman has released his debut single as JJerome87, “Brush Me Like a Horse.” He says it’s “the story of a man slowly turning into a horse. This metamorphosis has the world around him forgetting who he is as people begin to care for him more and more like a horse. This song was inspired partly by something I’d seen a friend go through. They didn’t turn into a horse, but their reputation went through a metamorphosis.”

SUKI WATERHOUSE – “BACK IN LOVE”

Suki Waterhouse has signed to Island and released her first single for the label, “Back in Love.” She co-wrote it with Natalie Findlay and Jules Apollinaire, and says, “the phrase ‘Back in Love’ reflects many ideas. For me, it’s about coming back to your sense of self after having an identity shift.”

MILEY CYRUS – “YOUNGER YOU”

Miley Cyrus previewed her new Hannah Montana song during the 20th anniversary special for the Disney Channel series, and it’s now on DSPs. “Younger me has loved celebrating 20 years of Hannah Montana with you,” she says. “This song is yours as a thank you for the life we’ve grown through together. I love you always.”

ROBYN HITCHCOCK – “I AM THIS THING”
