Ariana Grande is on the cover of Vogue Japan’s latest issue, but fans were quick to spot a problem: a six-fingered Grande.

“Wicked” star and singer Ariana Grande is on the cover of Vogue Japan—but fans quickly pointed out a problem with the original cover photo: Ariana has an undeniable sixth finger on her left hand.

“Who’s responsible for giving Ariana six fingers?” asked fan account @ourpinkwitchh in a post on Instagram featuring a zoomed in picture of the offending digit. Grande replied, “holy shit,” in the replies, before playfully adding: “Oh my goodness, how exciting! I’ve been saying I need some extra appendages so that I can start an album! Thankful for this.”

The photo appears to have been corrected as of Friday, according to the story on Vogue Japan’s website. The image now shows Grande with the correct number of fingers on her left hand.

But the matter underlines a more pressing issue, as noted by Luiza Jarovsky, co-founder of the AI Tech & Privacy Academy, in a post on the former Twitter.

“The level of AI slopification is so high that Ariana Grande has six fingers on the cover of Vogue Japan and NOBODY noticed it before publishing it,” wrote Jarovsky.

The moment comes amid widespread conversations about the increasing presence of AI in every creative industry, from music creation to illustration and photography. On the music side, French-headquartered streamer Deezer reported this week that 85% of AI-generated music detected (and demonetized) on its platform comes from fraud.

Ariana Grande is nominated alongside her “Wicked” co-star Cynthia Erivo in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category at this year’s Grammy Awards for “Defying Gravity” from the first film. The soundtrack itself is also nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media, while Erivo’s “Be Okay” from her album I Forgive You (2025) is nominated for Best Arrangement, Instrumental, or A Cappella. The 2026 Grammy Awards will be held this Sunday, February 1.

Meanwhile, besides “Wicked,” Grande is set to star alongside Jonathan Bailey in a revival of Stephen Sondheim’s musical, “Sunday in the Park with George,” at London’s Barbican Centre, with performances scheduled to begin in the summer of 2027.
