Barry Manilow Reveals Lung Cancer Diagnosis

Barry Manilow announced that he has lung cancer and will reschedule his upcoming shows to undergo surgery.

On Monday, singer-songwriter Barry Manilow announced that he has lung cancer and will reschedule his upcoming January shows while he undergoes surgery. The 82-year-old said he recently had bronchitis lasting multiple weeks on two separate occasions, and his doctor had ordered an MRI in an abundance of caution.

“The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed,” wrote Manilow in a statement shared on Instagram. “It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early,” he added. “The doctors do not believe it has spread, and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis.”

As a result, Manilow has rescheduled the January shows on his Christmas: A Gift of Love tour. The new schedule begins after his Valentine’s weekend concerts in Las Vegas, from the end of February and running through April.

“We were all looking forward to the January shows and hate having to move everything around,” said Manilow, apologizing to his fans for the change in schedule. He closed the statement by encouraging his fans to be proactive about their health. “If you have even the slightest symptom, get tested!”

“Ironically, I feel great and have no symptoms,” said Manilow in a statement to People. “I’m thankful that my doctors were proactive and ran tests that typically wouldn’t be done. They caught it very, very early.”

Barry Manilow is a Grammy,Tony, and Emmy Award-winning musician, whose hits include “Copacabana” and “Mandy.” The New York native was inducted into the Songwrtiers Hall of Fame in 2002.
