Wayne Coyne shares statement on Steven Drozd’s exit from The Flaming Lips: “what he told everyone was a lie”

Over the weekend, longtime Flaming Lips member Steven Drozd wrote on social media that he was no longer in the band. “They’re done with me — but we’re not talking about it,” he said. “So I’m moving on.” His comment was soon deleted but current Flaming Lips member Matthew Duckworth Kirksey, who’s been in the band for more than a decade, responded in a Instagram post that was collabed with the Lips that said in part, “NONE of this ever happens without Wayne. This idea that Steven was THE musical genius, and Wayne is just some weirdo artist… Its just not true.”

Now Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne has responded in his own Instagram post:

For anybody who read Stevens post about the reason he is no longer in the Flaming Lips … I can say that is absolutely not true … the reason he left is sad , and infuriating…. it is HIS responsibility to tell everyone what happened… what he told everyone was a lie ….I was trying to give him ( Steven ) his own space and time to let everyone know what REALLY happened… I will post more in just a few days.
