So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

DANIEL AVERY – “THE GHOST OF HER SMILE” FT NEWDAD’S JULIE DAWSON

“The longer I live with Tremor, the more this track feels like a shining light on the horizon after a night in the fog,” Daniel Avery says of this collab with NewDad’s Julie Dawson. “I’ve been a fan of NewDad from the moment I heard them – one of those stop what you’re doing and turn up the radio moments – so I’m truly excited to have Julie Dawson on this record. To me Julie is the embodiment of a modern rock star: enigmatic and formidable yet utterly beguiling. Her energy, her light, make the world of Tremor shine for everyone to see.”

ANNA VON HAUSSWOLFF – “STRUGGLE WITH THE BEAST”

Anna Von Hausswolff’s anticipated new album arrives on Halloween, and the latest preview is “Struggle with the Beast,” a minute experimental jazz freakout. “I wrote this song after a close friend experienced a psychosis,” she says. “There was something unstoppable and completely disconnected about her, as if she were living and reigning in a parallel universe of some kind. She was so far away from the person I knew, as if all of her social barriers had completely dissolved. There was a new, weird brilliance to her way of communicating and being. She had no filters. I’m glad she’s back to normal today, but it made me think of how vulnerable and complex we all are, and that there are layers of unresolved trauma and unspoken truths within everyone.”

PICTUREPLANE – “NIGHT FALLS”

This new Pictureplane single seems created for the spooky season. He says of the video: “A lone spiritual quest into the night leads to a psychedelic, dark & supernatural awakening shot entirely on a rural mezcal farm deep in Oaxaca, Mexico.” New album Sex Distortion is out October 31.

SASSY 009 – “TELL ME” (FT. BLOOD ORANGE)

Sassy 009, aka Norwegian producer and songwriter Sunniva Lindgård, will release Dreamer+ Out January 16. “This song has been sitting with me for a few years,” she says of “Tell Me” which features Dev Hynes. “It all started with a particular mood but I couldn’t quite seem to finish the song. I had the idea to send it over to Dev. I’ve been waiting for the moment for us to make a song together ever since we met in Amsterdam back in 2019, and I really couldn’t hear anyone else but him on it. So happy I followed my gut”.

SAINTSENECA – “BITTER SUITE”

The latest single from Highwalllow & Supermoon Songs, Saintseneca’s first album in 7 years, is “Bitter Suite.” Zac Little says:

I found this song at the intersection of grief and ecstatic joy.
I was mourning the loss of my friend, and celebrating the birth of my child.

How do you guide a life through this world of wild cruelty and profound beauty?
A harrowing prospect…

I listened to doom music.
It was soothing and cathartic.

On the outro of this number,
I used artificial intelligence to clone my voice, and set it to loop in a self destroying mantra —
Only to be washed away by the rhythmic waves of my daughter’s heartbeat in utero.

strangely train-like?
Apocalyptic dad rock
Keep on truckin’

DANNY BROWN – “COPYCATS” (ft. UNDERSCORES)

Danny Brown is fully embracing hyperpop on his upcoming album Stardust, and here’s another energized cut, “Copycats.”

BALMING TIGER & YAEJI – “WO AI NI” & “BREAK IT EVEN”

Balming Tiger and Yaeji dropped two new collaborative singles, “wo ai ni” and “break it even,” that they’ve been have working on for over a year.

RANCID – “SEX & DEATH” (MOTÖRHEAD COVER)

A punk tribute album to Motörhead called Killed By Deaf: A Punk Tribute To Motörhead is coming out on Halloween via BMG, and it very excitingly includes a cover of “Sex & Death” by Rancid. That cover is out now.

LESLIE GRAVES AND TOBY GOODSHANK – “TO BELONG”

Singer songwriter Leslie Graves has teamed with Moldy Peaches’ Toby Goodshank for new album Between Worlds. Single “To Belong” is breathy and baroque and comes with a gorgeously shot video by Chris Egan.

GLYDERS “MOON EYES”

Chicago band Glyders will release new album Forever on November 21 via Drag City and “Moon Eyes” is a very satisfying slice of grungy indie rock.

BONNER KRAMER – “WHISPERS FOR THE DAMNED”

Producer and Shimmy-Disc founder Kramer has announced ...and the crimson moon whispers goodbye, his first solo album in five years, which is out December 12. “The music on this LP scores movies-of-the-mind,” Kramer says. “My hope is that deep-listeners will be inspired to create their own inner films, created by their own psycho-acoustic experiences, building subconscious theaters atop the whispers of their imaginations.”

NAÏM AMOR & KID CONGO POWERS – “SURF SIRENS”

Naïm Amor and Kid Congo Powers will release their duo album Tucson Safari next week and here’s a final preview with this meaty chunk of garage rock.

BARRY ADAMSON – “SCALA POSTERS (MONDO BONGO)”

Speaking of former members of The Bad Seeds, Barry Adamson has scored the new documentary SCALA!!! which is about London’s notorious rep cinema. Here’s a groovy first taste.

DROP NINETEENS – “FOOLS”

Drop Nineteens are back with their first music since 2023’s Hard Light (which was their first album in three decades). “Fools” is harder and noisier than anything on that album, and may hint at where they’re going for their next album.

GIRL SCOUT – “SAME KIDS”

BIG L – “U AINT GOTTA CHANCE” (ft. NAS)
