DC punks Ekko Astral are going on indefinite hiatus. The band announced the news in an update on social media, where they also say that they “no longer have plans” to release their shelved second album, The Beltway is Burning, “any time soon.” It was initially scheduled to come out in April, but they postponed its release after being dropped from Topshelf. “Maybe one day that record will see the light of day,” they write. “Right now both of us want to build a project more fitting to where we are now creatively that isn’t this band.”
Ekko Astral have also announced what they say is their last show, happening at Washington DC’s DC9 on August 27 with Right Chipper and Berra. Tickets are on sale now, and they say, “we’ll be raffling the pink balloons painting and plan to donate all proceeds to trans health services at Whitman-Walker.”
Ahead of that, they’ll play a free, outdoor NYC show on August 22. More details about that are tba. The two shows “will be our last shows as Ekko Astral for the foreseeable future,” they say. “We are putting the band on indefinite hiatus to prioritize other musical projects. If you want to hear these songs live one last time with us, these shows will be your opportunities.”

thank you to everyone who has supported this band. this along with a free outdoor show in NYC on Aug 22 will be our last shows as Ekko Astral for the foreseeable future. we are putting the band on indefinite hiatus to prioritize other musical projects. if you want to hear these songs live one last time with us, these shows will be your opportunities.
Ekko Astral rose up out of bedroom jams and basement shows to become a dream realized. we’re eternally grateful to every single person who helped us along the way. and we’re endlessly appreciative of the music we made as Ekko Astral. the countless thousands we raised for trans people was you, not us. it was the many folks who came and greeted us at the merch table and the fans who sent us beautiful messages at random odd hours of the night. none of this was possible without you.
so let’s do this – final episode time. rock n roll. ❤️
