Oliver Tree dies at 32 in two-helicopter collision

Oliver Tree, the musician whose music blended indiepop, rap and EDM with a unique visual style, was killed in a collision between two helicopters in Rio de Janeiro while on tour in South America. He was 32.

According to news reports, Oliver was one of six casualties in the crash; Lucas Vignale, Gaspar Prim (Argentinian YouTuber Gaspi), Lucas Brito Chaves, and pilot Alexandre Souza were also aboard the helicopter Oliver was on, while pilot Charles Marsillac was flying solo in the other.

Born Oliver Tree Nickel, he launched his music career in the early 2010s and had a viral hit with “When I’m Down” and signed to Atlantic Records in 2017. Oliver Tree released his debut album, Ugly Is Beautiful, which went to #14 on the Billboard album chart, and he also had Alternative chart hits with “Hurt,” “Alien Boy,” “Life Goes On,” “Cowboys Don’t Cry” and “Let Me Down.” His fourth album, Love You Madly Hate You Badly, was released in April.
