Rollo Doherty is a name that almost sounds fated for fame, yet Flowers earns its own place in the mythology through sound design that lets emotion blossom without strain. The multi-instrumentalist, writer, producer and composer, also known for his acclaimed work with ISLAND, brings his discernible talent for turning texture into feeling into a single steeped in dreamy verdance.
Sentimentality has always clung to petals, yet Flowers makes the instrumental arrangement feel grander than any bouquet. Bathed in celestial glow, the progressions take turning paths through languid, sun-soaked sublimity, ambling with the ease of something allowed to bloom at its own pace, resulting in a masterstroke of hazily cathartic indie dream-pop; it’s flora for hopeless romantics, for those who meet fragility and find beauty waiting in the breakage.
Doherty’s wider creative world gives the track its visual depth. As a filmmaker, illustrator and animator as well as a musician, he builds Flowers with the sensibility of someone who understands image, movement and emotional colour. His previous EP led to support slots with Skinshape and Palace, while BBC, KEXP and NPR have already recognised the scale of his solo work. Alongside ISLAND, with over 50 million Spotify plays, sold-out London headline shows and an EA FIFA soundtrack feature, Doherty carries experience as lightly as the diaphanous touch he places on his melodies.
Flowers is now available to stream on all major platforms, including Spotify.
