Robert Plant has been collaborating with vocalist Suzi Dian, drummer Oli Jefferson, guitarist Tony Kelsey, banjo and string player Matt Worley, and cellist Barney Morse-Brown over the past few years, and he’s now announced his first album with them. Saving Grace, which Plant calls “a song book of the lost and found,” is due out on September 26 via Nonesuch. “We laugh a lot, really.” he adds. “I think that suits me. I like laughing. You know, I can’t find any reason to be too serious about anything. I’m not jaded. The sweetness of the whole thing… These are sweet people and they are playing out all the stuff that they could never get out before. They have become unique stylists and together they seem to have landed in a most interesting place.”
Saving Grace features covers of songs by Memphis Minnie, Bob Mosley (Moby Grape), Blind Willie Johnson, The Low Anthem, Martha Scanlan, Sarah Siskind, and more, and the first single is a rendition of Low‘s “Everybody’s Song,” off their 2005 album The Great Destroyer. Hear that below.
Plant also announced a fall North American tour with Saving Grace, beginning on October 30 in Wheeling, WV and wrapping up on November 22 in Los Angeles. See all dates below.
The NYC show is at Brooklyn Paramount on November 5, and there’s a Port Chester, NY show at The Capitol Theatre on November 8. Tickets to all dates go on sale Friday, July 18 at 10 AM local.
