Billed as an “immersive pop-up experience” and previously held in New York as well as Los Angeles, Grammy House is going global as part of the Recording Academy’s Middle East and Africa expansion initiative.
As some might recall, the Grammys organizer revealed said initiative in June 2024, emphasizing a collection of related “agreements with Ministries of Cultures and key stakeholders across the Middle East and Africa.”
While the announcement didn’t directly mention Egypt, the nation’s most famous landmark is apparently front of mind for the Academy.
Recording Academy head Harvey Mason Jr. and other higher-ups were on hand, as were performers including Omar Khairat and Carole Samaha. At the intersection of all these points – Mason Jr.’s personally traveling to Egypt, the noteworthy sets from regional talent, and more – the Grammy House Giza wheels are certainly in motion.
But will the initially highlighted lawsuit derail things? Grammy House Giza isn’t scheduled to take place until October 2026, and as we previously reported, the suit centers on the alleged Pyramids damage resulting from live shows.
Though it probably doesn’t need saying in light of the announcement’s scope, the multiday Grammy House Giza itself is expected to include performances – in addition to “cultural exchanges, educational panels, and collaborative sessions,” according to the Academy.
As such – and given the increasingly populated Giza events calendar – it’ll be worth closely tracking the complaint from here. (One testament to this calendar’s relative fullness: An “invite only event” slated to kick off tomorrow afternoon, when Elson Soares and different artists will proceed to entertain fans until early Saturday morning, the official poster shows.)
“It is a thrill to expand the GRAMMY House experience globally, and to see it come to life at one of the world’s most iconic locations,” the Recording Academy CEO relayed. “GRAMMY House Giza represents the spirit of the Recording Academy’s vision to amplify music people worldwide and create meaningful gathering places for our entire music community.
“Next year’s event will be a beacon of collaboration, discovery and inspiration, and will continue to connect us to the creators, innovators, and fans who are shifting and shaping culture,” Mason Jr. concluded.
