Podcasts are having a major boom on Patreon, generating $629 million in revenue on the direct-to-fan platform in 2025.

If you thought Spotify was out of its element in pushing to expand into podcasting, you’d be sorely mistaken. Podcasts are having a boom on Patreon, generating over $629 million in revenue on the direct-to-fan platform in 2025, a 33% year-over-year increase. Patreon says that podcasts have become the largest content category on the platform in terms of revenue.

“Podcasts are a resonant medium,” said Chief Operating Officer Paige Fitzgerald. “They work well for multi-hyphenate creators who want to leverage several types of media formats to connect with their fans.”

To wit, Patreon is home to several popular and award-winning podcasts from top celebrities, including Quentin Tarantino, Bret Easton Ellis, Jonathan Van Ness, Nikki Glaser, Robby Hoffman, Ts Madison, fashion designer Recho Omondi, and YouTubers Dan and Phil.

Top podcasters on the platform, such as Joe Budden, earn as much as $1 million a month or more, Patreon reports. Budden first launched his Patreon after his exclusivity deal with Spotify ended.

Over 47,000 podcasters earn income from fans on Patreon. The company takes a 10% cut of revenue plus applicable taxes. But since Patreon is not ad-supported, “our business model aligns with creators,” added Fitzgerald. “We only make money when creators make money. Every decision we make is about, ‘How do we enable our creators’ businesses to grow?’”

Last year, Patreon launched its Podcast Network Partnership Program in partnership with Sony Music. The company also ramped up its Spotify integration, enabling creators to host Patreon-only podcasts alongside free, ad-supported episodes on the streaming platform. Patreon says nearly half of earning podcasters on its platform have enabled this, and 15% of Spotify listeners who visit a creator’s Patreon page converted to paid memberships.

According to Fitzgerald, while other platforms are “optimized for watch-time and endless scrolling,” Patreon has the “‘keep your attention’ dial turned down on our algorithms. We are able to do that because we are focused on funding arts, not ads.”

Currently, Patreon is working on expanding its own creator-first discovery network to help more fans find and subscribe to creators on the platform without first being onboarded through an outside platform such as Spotify or YouTube.
