According to new court documents, singer D4vd (real name David Anthony Burke) is the target of a Los Angeles County grand jury investigation into the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, the teenage girl whose dismembered remains were found last year in the trunk of his Tesla.
The filings, viewed by NBC News, state that a grand jury investigation is underway in Los Angeles County involving allegations that Burke “may be involved” in the death of 14-year-old Rivas Hernandez. She was reported missing from the Lake Elsinore area in 2024.
Inside the trunk was a black bag covered with insects, which contained a decomposed head and torso. A second bag was also in the trunk, containing additional body parts.
Previously, an LAPD source with direct knowledge of the investigation said that the singer was a suspect in the teen’s death, though he has not yet been arrested or charged with any crime.
Court documents also reveal that Burke’s parents—Colleen and Dawud Burke, who live in Texas—were ordered to appear before a Los Angeles grand jury scheduled for February 11. Documents also confirm that Dawud Burke was asked to appear as a witness in the investigation.
Burke, who was on tour when news of Hernandez’s death broke, cancelled the rest of his U.S. tour shortly thereafter. His attorneys have not responded to media requests for comment. Back in September, a spokesperson for Burke said he was “fully cooperating with authorities,” but police have since said that the singer has not been cooperative.
