There are origin stories that feel carefully crafted, and there are others that crash into existence with the force of an unexpected realization. Sleeper Signal belongs to the latter. Its beginning is neither polished nor predetermined. It is personal, improvised, and profoundly human. At twenty three, staring down the end of college with no clear plan ahead, William found himself standing at the crossroads familiar to many young artists. A degree had been earned, mostly to please the expectations of others. The future, however, felt like an open field that was finally his to claim.

During a spring break trip to Nashville in 2018, everything shifted. The city’s pulse, the conversations, the raw immediacy of musicians carving out their futures convinced him that being an original artist was not only worth trying, but possible. It took Craigslist, of all places, to complete the circle. Edgar arrived first. Edgar brought Leo. Leo brought Erik. Within weeks, rehearsals began and Sleeper Signal transformed from one man’s determination into a musically aligned collective with a shared ambition. Their first show in January 2020 at The Crying Wolf in East Nashville became the moment the idea turned into a living entity. Sleeper Signal was no longer a vision. It was a band.

A New York Soul in a Southern Chapter

William’s creative identity carries the unmistakable imprint of New York. He grew up in Mount Vernon, just outside the Bronx, where toughness and resilience are as essential as air. The Italian household he was raised in instilled values of work ethic, self sufficiency, and pride in one’s craft. Music and cooking ran through the family, and those cultural roots form a vital part of the Sleeper Signal ethos: work hard, earn everything, take nothing for granted, and treat the people around you like family.
