Red Bull Records has announced it will wind down operations by the end of the year. The label ran for 18 years, distributed through Sony Music Entertainment imprints RED Music and The Orchard.
“After 18 years of operation, Red Bull Records will be winding down by the close of the year,” a company spokesperson told HitsDailyDouble, which was first to report the news.
Presumably, this move will also shutter festivals and events like Red Bull Jukebox, which returned to Nashville earlier this month with a lineup that included Treaty Oak Revival, Ashley Cooke, Kashus Culpepper, and more. However, news of Red Bull Records’ closure did not mention its events.
It launched a publishing division the following year, which represented songwriters and producers like Eric Aukstikalnis, Charlie Shuffler, LordQuest, Kofi, Caleb Shomo, and Aaron Bruno.
In 2023, the label announced six new hires in A&R, creative, and marketing. At the time, that accounted for 20% of its staff.
Red Bull Records’ current roster includes Maryland rapper Joony, London R&B singers James Vickery, Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr., UK pop artist Morgan, and country singer-songwriter Pynk Beard, who signed with the label over the summer.
Red Bull’s other major music project, Red Bull Music Academy, shut its doors in 2019 after an impressive 21 years of festivals, club nights, and education workshops. The online station Red Bull Radio also shut down the same year.
The Red Bull Music Academy was founded in 1998 by Torsten Schmidt and Many Ameri. In addition to touring over 60 countries and offering lectures, workshops, and concerts, the Academy also maintained a daily music publication.
