It’s Taylor’s latest era, and the showgirl is paying tribute to another groundbreaking musician of his own era. George Michael’s estate recently announced that Swift’s track “Father Figure,” featuring an interpolation of Michael’s 1987 song of the same name, was a welcome delight.
“We were delighted when Taylor Swift and her team approached us earlier this year about incorporating an interpolation of George Michael’s classic song, ‘Father Figure,’ into a brand new song of the same title to be featured on her forthcoming album,” shared the late singer’s estate in a post on Facebook.
“When we heard the track, we had no hesitation in agreeing to this association between two great artists, and we know George would have felt the same,” the post continued. “George Michael Entertainment wishes Taylor every success with The Life of a Showgirl and ‘Father Figure.’”
Taylor Swift announced The Life of a Showgirl back in August, and the album dropped during a special weekend release with AMC airing the album’s accompanying film in theaters. As is the norm for a Swift album, Showgirl is available in multiple variants, including a glittery orange vinyl “Sweat and Vanilla Perfume” edition, and a Target-exclusive edition, “The Crowd is Your King.” The record is also available on CD and cassette formats.
According to Swift, the album was inspired by the joy she felt while performing on her record-setting Eras Tour.
“This album is about what was going on behind the scenes of my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant,” she said. “It just comes from the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in my life, and so that effervescence has come through on this record.”
