Alanis Morissette Sues Former Tour Manager for Extortion & Fraud

Alanis Morissette is suing her former tour manager with extortion and fraud allegations involving threats to falsely report the singer for drug trafficking.

Alanis Morissette has filed a lawsuit against her 2025 tour manager, Keren Urinov, whom she accuses of orchestrating a “calculated blackmail campaign” involving threats to falsely report the singer to British authorities for drug trafficking. She filed her case on Tuesday, September 1, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

Court documents claim that during her temporary employment as the musician’s tour manager, Urinov admitted to the British Border Force that a bag seized at an airport last summer belonged to Morissette. The tour manager had been flagged for inspection and detained at a UK airport while traveling with Morissette and her team for a show in Spain. The bag allegedly contained cannabis and a non-opioid animal tranquilizer called xylazine.

Urinov was detained again in Spain and later stated she told border officials that the bag and its contents belonged to Morissette. After the tour ended, Urinov and her lawyer allegedly sent Morissette a series of “increasingly extortionate” letters with threats to sue.

According to the filing, Morissette says the tour manager demanded that the singer tell law enforcement that the drugs were hers. Urinov allegedly told Morissette that she could easily “put an end to the matter” by giving her a 15-year tour director contract including significant compensation, raises, and bonuses. When she refused, Morissette says Urinov and her lawyer sent another letter vowing to report the artist to the British authorities for drug trafficking.

“Alanis Morissette is the victim of a calculated blackmail campaign orchestrated by a disgruntled former tour manager,” the filing reads, adding that the singer filed the lawsuit “reluctantly” after she felt she had “no choice” to protect herself.

“Morissette will not agree to work with an incompetent blackmailer for the next fifteen years or pay her a ransom under the gun.”

Morissette is suing for civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation. She is seeking a jury trial, unspecified compensatory damages exceeding $75,000, and punitive damages.
